What exactly is the process for emancipation in the state of Georgia?
I'm 17. I'm going to be 18 in 6 months. I know I should just wait and until then but I'm in a very unhealthy environment. My mom has been physically and mentally abusing me my whole life. She doesn't do it a lot, only when I make her angry and do something wrong, but nonetheless I know what she does isn't right. It is emotionally draining for me, I'm depressed and rarely happy, I feel threatened in my own home and scared. She tries to control everything and just won't let me live a normal, healthy life. I need to get out of this situation. I have to do this for myself, for my happiness and my health. I've always known that I have to, and now that I'm almost an adult I have to take action. I need help though! I don't have a job, but I do go to school and I plan on going to college and actually having a successful career. But I need to get out of here first. I know I can become emancipated but I need to know how in Georgia. Please give me all the help and details you can... Thanks.

- I don't think emancipation is the word you are looking for but that is immaterial. If you have not already done so, talk to a social worker. With only 6 months to go, they are going to ask you to wait it out, but you still need an exit plan for when you turn 18. Do you have a friend whose parents would let you move in with them till you finish school? Are you financially able to go to an out of town school? Good luck on getting things sorted out.
