- If you like cars, then it is a great career. In High School I took an Auto-Tech class, and there were many employers interested in the students in the class. Those in the class who showed an interest, were accepted to a Auto Tech school with relative ease. There was one student who was exceptionally good with cars, he went directly to work from HS. So if you enjoy working on cars, I highly recommend it, it has good pay and the programs don't take that long to finish. Vocational training means that it will train you for a non-academic career- you will learn a trade. I did not enjoy working on cars so I didn't go for it, but if you have an interest in that sort of thing, and aren't into the thought of College, it is a good career choice.
- Well I used to go to Lincoln Tehnical Institute for Automotive Technology, basically you go to school and after you finish you get your certificate. You have to take the ASE's on your own. Your ASE or how many you decide to get determines how valuable you are to any auto shop.Typically if you have 5 different ASE certifications you will get an extra dollar an hour per certificate. Be warned that not all shops operate the same way, some will pay you hourly regardless what comes in the shop, others pay you for what comes in. So if you work at a shop that averages 5-10 cars a week, you will starve. Try to get into a shop that stays busy.
- All I know it is a good career if you enjoy working on cars every time I have to see my mechanic it cost me an arm and half a leg.. Good luck and follow your dreams and things you enjoy doing especially if you can live well off of it..God Bless
