Questions about dental school??

I am a junior and so far I have a 3.45 cumulative GPA and a 3.7 science GPA. I have always wanted to be a dentist since I was a kid, so I really have a passion for the profession. I have worked in a Chemistry lab, tutored chemistry, and tutored Matematics at a local community college that I attended. Also, I have worked in the community for Habitat for Humanity and a hospice doing volunteer work. All I really have left to do is shadow a dentist, which I am really nervous about. I take the DAT in April and have been studying all summer for it. The Kaplan test has really helped, I averaged a 18 on all academic sections and sort of struggled through the PAT part. Is there anywhere online that offers free practice on the PAT? I am so nervous about the whole thing because I can't see myself doing anything else as a career. Also, I have three years of military experience so hopefully that will look good. Any info would be such a blessing. Thanks so much in advance!

  1. thats cool, congrats. sorry, i dont know of any online sites that offers free practice on the PAT. you can try typing in what your looking for in a google toolbar. i tried yahoo, but couldnt come up with anything. good luck in the future of dentistry :)
  2. I am a pre med student and the aamc.org website has 4 practice mcats. so I am sure the dental society does too. check ada.org or ask your kaplan instructors
  3. Good for you! Sounds like you're on the right track! Don't be nervous about shadowing...most dentists love to inspire future dentists. I'm not sure about online PAT practice, but I've heard the Barron book helps. I would just go check it out at the library rather than buy it. It should offer a few tricks to help you out.
  4. if u r indian and belong to midddle class family and ur goal is to make money frequently, for ur family sake u donot take the dental course as profession, because u see allmost 80% of the dental graduates are facing lot of problem, they will watching like awatchman to get a patient. example: my friend is adental doctor in banglore and he has passed out in 2000, till now he is not even able to make money like normal aurvedic doctor. my friend waits for hours and hours may or may not come asingle patient. so ur whole effort and money is lost. many of dental friends have shifted their profession, now they are working in call centers, and bpo's i suggest everyone not to take dental courses for livelyhood
