- Dermatology as in a medical doctor? (or a nurse? or aesthetics?) A medical doctor is 4 years bachelors in a pre-med curricula; 4 years med school, 4 years or so residency. (cost about $250,000 plus) Most then open a private practice, with the expense of staff, equipment, malpractice etc. There is nor real advancement--docs are what they are. You income depends on billing reimbursement less the expenses.
