I need help with career ideas!?

I've come here asking this because I've taken online career test which say i should be a pipe layer which I would hate. These are my interest: MUSIC is number one in my life. I know how to set up any string instrument, and like to play (guitar and piano mostly) a variety of instruments and would say that I am good at it. I also have experience recording and mixing music for local bands, and helping get their demos on the radio. second, I love random history facts! I know so many unusual things about history from the eastern and western world that I never have anyone to talk about it to, because no one I know shares the same intreset as me. I love education television and learning. I also am a very quick learner. I hate working in factories, and I dont like jobs that dont involve interaction with people or music. I am getting ready to go to college or tech. school and was wondering if you'd have any ideas of a career i may be interested in! Thank you!

  1. I say do what you want to do. Go after your dreams. You're very talented. You know, you can start making records, you can make soundtracks for movies, many things. Go for it!
  2. Wow! What a neat combination of interests! You may consider going to your local community college an taking an aptitude test. Even though you already know what you enjoy, this might help you get a better feel for how you could put your talents to good work.
  3. If you want to pursue something safe than you could work at a history or music museum (Rock & Roll Hall of Fame). If you want to do something that is more risky a music producer or something.
  4. If you are getting ready to go to college don't try to decide on a career just yet. At the school that you attend, look for a major where you can take classes in sociology, philosophy, anthropology ...and study music/music appreciation, film making etc... Look for volunteer opportunities at music and film festivals ...look up the stats on your favorite authors & producers, find out where they teach -if they're touring, or doing book readings & lectures etc... Eventually you'll figure out if your skills are best suited to be an artist, or maybe in the business & promotional sector. You might even want to go into academia and be a historian, or a museum curator, or a connoisseur.
  5. Eventually you could own your own music store and you could stock it with modern western instruments and older and/or Eastern, unusual instruments. Through your music store, you could offer lessons, too (whether taught by you or by others). You could then really focus your education on both business (you'd have to run your own business, which is complicated sometimes) and on music, music history, etc. Take some classes in television and video, too, and you could work out another niche. Why not offer videos, or video pod-casts or a televised education program about musical instruments, musical history, etc.? You would interact with fascinating people, and many of the people who came to your shop would share at least the music interest you have. And if you became known as a purveyor of unusual, interesting instruments, that might attract people from otehr regions who would be interesting to talk with while they shopped. The down-side, of course, is that it's hard to open up a store and have it be a money-maker. If you were successful, you could travel far and wide to explore other regions, videotape the music, find instruments, etc., but it is hard to achieve that level of success when you have to find money for the inventory and to sustain your self as you start up.... Maybe start online so you don't have to pay rent, or maybe find a really spacious place and you could combine musical classes for little kids (little-kid classes can be pretty profitable-- moms are always looking for a way to fill time and/or expand their kids' horizons). ANyway, it's something fun to think about.
  6. I think you would do well as a teacher! With your passion for the subject, and your knowledge of the history, this sounds like a perfect career for you. Either at the high school or college level, you could impart your wisdom on others, and do a bit of the rest on the side (which would enhance your credentials).
  7. Have you considered music therapy? Music therapist teach patients to use music to overcome learning blocks, emotional issues, etc. It is mainly used in treating autism and with geriatrics. Growing industry, average pay is 200K-300K/year. A second choice would be radio programmer. Use your knowledge of the industry to select play lists for radio stations.
  8. try considering the theatrical arts and filmmaking, pour all your talents there and start knowing all the minor details that comprises this field but with your main focus on becoming a director. skills learned in the theatrical arts can also be applied in filmmaking and vice versa, so you can have a broader application of your talent...as you will know all the technical things and start developing your own styles and techniques, then start creating your own production that incorporates music and history (for instance, you may want to create a musical about a particular history)...incorporating music and history can be applied both in the theater and the film, which can also be very appealing to the audience or viewers, depends on your approach and understanding of what the spectators want to see....and you will eventually develop all these skills if you will just concentrate and put some dedication on what you are or want to do.
  9. Do not use on line tests. many our worthless and you have found out. Many colleges offer vocational interest tests that are much better.
