Someone with British Army experience please help- something strange is going on...?
A while ago I send a covering letter and CV to the Royal Dragoon Guards asking if they could sponsor me for a commission as I'd like to serve with them. This is what it tells you to do on their webpage; just send in a letter, no need to go to a careers office. I have heard back from a RDG Brigadier asking me to come for an interview at the Cavalry Club, London, on the 20th to see if I am RDG Officer material. Good, I thought, nice start. So I go on to the Army website where you talk online to a recruiting Sergeant and asked him via IM what I should do to prepare for the interview (exact words). This reply was (quote): 'The Brigadier has probably been capbadged from elsewhere to deal with your interview. That is all I can tell you, OK?' He then ended the session without further chance for me to even thank him for his time. What's going on?! Is an nterview outside of a careers office unusual? Bad? What would the likely outcome be if I am successful in London? Thanks!

- The recruiter is just mad he didn't get his quota. You would have been one for him or her but you by-passed the system. It's not your fault if what you say is true about the website. Since you're not filling one of his or her quotas you're not worth the time. Every senior soldier should take care of soldiers regardless if they're getting anything out of it.
- The RDG, along with some other regiments, are somewhat "selective" about whom they choose where sponsorship is involved, and it's not unknown for interviews to be carried out out of the recruiting office scenario. As the other responder says, I expect the recruiting sergeant is miffed because you're not going through his books. If I were you, I'd have a look at the Sandhurst website to get an idea of what's involved in Officer training, as well as reading up on the RDG. Good Luck.
- Don't do it! don't go. they're gonna kidnapp you and use you in all kinds of top secret experiments at porton down. Mark my words They'll make you disappear dude.
