Obama Healthcare: Health Professionals/Health Profession Students?

As a Pre-PA student who is looking to eventually work in the medical field, I've got a few questions for people training to be heath professionals and current health professionals. (When I asked this in the poltical section all I got was blind rhetoric, hope yall answer better!) 1.) How does Obama's plan for nationlized health care affect you as a health professional or health profession student? 2.) Will you still continue your education/career if drastic salary cuts were made to your job to better marginalize the cost of health care? 3.) Do you feel that with the growing number of "Dr." titles (DNPs, DPTs, etc) enable health professionals to ask for a higher salary? How would they react under a government-reimbursment style medical system when they're salaries are regulated and have a glass ceiling? 4.) Do you feel frustrated or irritated when others accuse medical professionals of greed simply because they draw a large salary for an important and difficult job?

Public Comments

  1. 1. Obama's plan looks like a watered-down Romney plan, designed to fail with the proper political blame rather than to succeed at doing anything. 2. I just finished three years at twice my normal hours and considerably less than my normal income for a project I believed in. 3. It's a non-issue, but there's always been some political push for funding of "alternative care," and it's easier for the government to cave than fight. 4. Most of that envious griping comes from people whose opinions I don't value. And the rest concede the sacrifice.
  2. 1. to be honest i havent paid much attention 2. more than likely I have student loan debt that precludes me from changing employment 3. As a pharmacist titles mean little to me. I have a Pharm.D. and get paid the same as the person with the bachelors degree. I would be ok with regulation of salary as long as they subsidized the schooling required for the occupation. 4. Yes. If the average person understood what my job consisted of and the fact that a mechanic gets paid the same as me they would understand my frustration.
