Need career help from REAL people!?

I have applied to Med school and am pretty much in. However, I am pretty talented in so many areas and I can't deal with the pressure of having to make a decision now (at 22) about what I will be doing for the rest of my life. Any good websites about unusual careers/internships? Any adive if you have been in a similar situation and now have a job you love? I am STUCK!

  1. Good luck with medical school, but remember that the pressure, the headgames, the stress are a lot for most people to withstand. If you do get accepted, then maybe you should defer for a year and work in a lab or being a teaching assistant. Get some auxiliary 'science' experience, so that you can think about whether working 36 hrs on, 4 hours off, 36 hrs on, etc is for you. You will take out tens of thousands of dollars in loans, and it will be go, go, go for at least 4 years. Then, you will have your residency (where you make the equivalent of $10/hr). It's a struggle, but it's also a fantastic accomplishment. Ask yourself if you're truly committed to science, research, helping people, etc or are you just in it for the money and letters after your name? I knew I wasn't ready for med school at 22 or 25, so I worked in research labs (I'm a lab manager now). Now, I am older, have had my daughter (do NOT have kids during med school or residency, it's HELL for everyone involved), and have decided on graduate school. Best of luck to you!
