Is architecture good preparation for a career in Real Estate Development?
I have always loved architecture, but I've never gone into the area because it is such a saturated profession. I have had a number of friends have been very well off in a career in Real Estate Development. I have been considering getting my M.Arch. degree at NewSchool of Architecture and Design in San Diego and then going for a career in Real Estate Development after graduation. Is this a logical pathway to "doing what I love" yet being practical about finding work after graduation? Any info provided would be appreciated!

- if u love it, do it! just cuz u have friends doing well in their profession, don't think that's the only profession that people do well in! if u want to be an architect, by all mean, go 2 school and become and architect.
- ^^^ ummm, ok. Lol Anyway, it's a good field to start in for the fact that in Architecture you are going to rub elbows with many developers and be a shoe in. However, if you already have the rescources for development, then why waste the time going to arch. school when you can just hire someone to do that work for you?
- go for it
- No, I woudl say not. I'm an architect in southern california. If you really are that serious you probably would be more interested in a degree in urban planning. As this speaks more to demographics, community development etc. With regards to just knowing buildigns and buildings types and building heratige I suggest auditing a few architectural history classes.
