can i survive?

I graduated college on dec 2007 and i plan on pursuing a career in research. I plan on going to the school of public health, with a concentration in molecular biology and infectious diseases. When i graduated college, i had no experience in the field and i wanted to learn as much as i could so when it came down to writing my essay and statement of purposes, I would have somthing relevant to say to prove to the schools that i am ready to embark on this career path. six months till this very day, i was unable to secure a job in the research field until i received a call from john hopkins univeristy(center for inherited diseases). They offered me a job and i accepted. my question is this. The job pays 28,000 per year and to me i dont give a damn about the money. but my parents keep getting to me saying i should not have accepted the job and that it does not pay much, but the thing is im just doing it for experience while in school. if they kick me out, can i survive with the pay? I am applying to schools especially johns Hopkins. like i stated earlier. this job is mostly for experience to get a feel for my career path that i chose. iim also taking my gre at the ending of june. This is not my future job, its just a step in the door for me. experince and eduaction is my concern, not money. I was just asking that if my parents did kick me out, would i be able to make it till i am done with school. thats all im saying. A masters of science(molecular biology and infectious diseases) is what i hope to achieve in the next 2 years and look foward to a phd

  1. you could in Michigan
  2. you can survive, if you live very...cheaply. the average salary of a man in the US right now is $40,000, which i still think is very low
  3. You haven't said what you have done to pursue the education you want. Have you been accepted somewhere? Are you applying anywhere? You can't accept anything until you can confidentally weigh all of your options open to you. When all the cards are on the table, then you can make an educated decision. Personally, a $28,000. per year job is very low pay considering the potential you can learn and earn. Don't dismiss education at this point, it can seem the harder road, but if the right offer is there it will pay off tenfold.
