Do you think age 33 is too old for a career change?

I am in the Title insurance business and have been thinking of a career change that would require me to go to medical school. (Optometry) The problem is that I am 33 years old. Do you think this is too old to go back to school for something as difficult as Optometry school?

  1. I think you should give medical school a go.
  2. no not if you arnt happy with your current job then going back to school will make you happier plus 33 is still pretty young GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. No, you know that. I'm myself 31 years old, I have four children and single. I just went back to school to get a B.S in math. I don't think believe you are ever old to do what you want.
  4. No problem whatsoever. 33 is not too old. 63 isn't even old (a lot of retirees go back to school for a year or two in order to CHANGE careers, not stop working completely). Optometry is not really med school. Find a school near you, and start talking to the admissions counselors. They may suggest going to school at nights to take pre-reqs. Based on you performance, they may accept you. Schools are looking for pasionate individuals for graduate school - age is an asset for this.
  5. not at all. if you have a young soul and spirit to learn then go for it.
  6. You should do what you want to do! Life is to short to work in a career feild that you don't care fore. I say go for it! :) And good luck!
  7. no it would be much more difficult when you are 43.
  8. Go for it! I was 32 when I went to college. Now at 37 have the job I have always wanted.
  9. no, its never too late to try out new things, if you think the medical school is a good idea, then go for it, age doesnt matter
  10. I went back to school and got my teaching credential at age 50. My mom finished college at age 42. My grandmother went to college for the first time at age 56, graduated at age 60 and made Phi Beta Kappa. So my answer is no, you aren't too old.
  11. you have to do what makes you happy. if you want to take a crack at optometry school then go for it. you dont want to be sitting in that title insurance place 5 years from now talking about "what if" or "i should have". live for today man!!! your still a young buck!!!
  12. ANY age should be good for a change ..PROVIDED you have a passion for the new line of work and have the daring to face the immensity of troubles whic're bound to follow such a venture .. I wish you all the best ..
  13. Not too old -- I went back to school when I was 43, getting an MBA at 45 and a PhD at 49. I'm now a college professor.
  14. No, it's not. Think about it. Even after you finish school, you will still have more than 20 years of working life before you reach average retirement age. That is plenty of time to have a full and rewarding career.
