Did your ideal career change through the years? If so, how did it change and what made you realise you should?

Did you dream of being in a different career when you were younger? If this idea changed through time, what was it that made you realise you should change and how did you go about it? Do you have any advice for others who are going through a career change?

  1. Yes it did, I wanted too be on the drug force, but because I have epilepsy, ( even though its controlled by tablets} They wouldn't even let me have a desk job, Then I got into sales with BBQS Galore and that's where I found my love of selling and over coming any challenge.I get a great satisfaction from selling something to someone being what they need and want in there price bracket, an making sure they went home with everything they needed an when they came back to ask my advice it was nice to know they trusted a females opinion. I only left because another dream of my was fulfil I had my lovely daughter I am now in the deli with woolworths which is great and I love it, looking forward too building my way too the top again in sales I love it. If your thinking you dont enjoy your job your doing or dont feel happy or fufil, leave and find the job that makes it worth while getting out of bed and that u go to smiling and leave smiling besides sleeping you spend the other hours working be happy at what u do an be the best CHOW :.), I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world I'm not rich but I have a lovely husband, an angel of a daughter and a job, thats all I need in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Not really major career change. Only change of environment... For years I thought I was going to be a teacher. Then in High School I changed my mind. I thought of becoming an accountant, an auditor was my ideal job. During Uni I was working as an assistant slave in one of the Big 4. One of the partners even gave me a glowing written reference. But, graduated from Uni, I could not secure any graduate auditing position in Big 4. I was devastated. I spat the dummy and worked in industry as an internal accountant. Few years after that I got my CPA and was really bored at my job. Then I got a bit obsessed with the idea of jumping into a Chartered environment - but not audit. Now after spending a few years in Chartered, and two post graduate degrees later, I start to think only dodgy people work in Tax area in Chartered (and I am now one of them). Maybe it is time to jump elsewhere. Somewhere less dodgy.
  5. I always dreamt of putting together a series of books on capitalism democracy and evolution with the philosophy that people gain knowldge simply and for the purpose of trying to engender peace on earth. I have had enough of war haven't you all so I gave up masonary, and started to put down all that my contemplations had brought into my mind plus none stop reading for years, so now I have written one book that explans evolution and how god would have a part in that and explains what is the greatest environmental problem on earth facing the human psyche and will be finishing another book soon that I hope helps answer some of the concerns people have about a changing climate through the giving on insight to the use of evolutionary mechanics into the economic debate surrounding climate change so my career change which began seven years ago even though makes me no money is highly successful as I have a large volume of intellctual property that will become more valuable as time goes on. my advice to any one is, that the way they gain their living has no bearing on what the are, it is their aims they carry through that denotes in the end the achivemens they have made other than material ones
  6. Knowing where you are going and staying motivated is the key for me. I initially discovered through the various jobs that I was in but not satisfied what the aspects of the jobs that I liked to do. I then did a bit of research and took some aptitude tests to see what jobs best matched my abilities and interests. I eventually was able to change my work life to encompass two different careers (it did take some time and some schooling). The key for me was to stay motivated and be very clear on my goals. I'm now using a free website called Sproximo that helps me write down, plan and track my work (and other) goals. Good luck!
