How can I have a high-paying career in education?

I've heard from countless people that being a teacher is not the best paying career, but i know there are some teachers out there that are paid a lot! What could i do to become one of these teachers? Does it have to do with location? Public or private? Secondary teaching? Experience?

  1. College and university lecturers, and research-based professors can earn substantially more than elementary or highschool teachers. Public school teachers with a great deal of experience, a subject speciality, or greater responsibilities within the school (head of grade, headteacher, programme coordinator) can command higher salaries. As far as I'm aware, salary premiums are given for location: teachers who work in cities where the cost of living is usually very high may be paid more. Private education does tend to pay better because individual schools can set their own salary levels to attract the best staff. However, you may find that because of this, many private schools attract high-calibre teachers and are thus harder to obtain employment in. However, you'll probably find that most of those who go into teaching do so far more because they have a belief in the education system or love the work than for financial dividends. Teaching is a respectable, dependable career, pays relatively well and can be very rewarding - but generally speaking, most teachers would say that their rewards are emotional rather than financial. To be a well-paid teacher, experience, drive and a love for what you do will get you to the top of your field.
  2. A lot has to do with location. Connecticut public school teachers are the highest paid in the US. Secondly, advanced degrees such as a MA or a PhD do help and are often times sought out by certain school districts (who like to brag about their faculty and staff being extremely well educated). Unfortunately, most of these school districts are not multiethnic nor are they urban. They tend to be predominately homogeneously white and suburban. Experience also adds the equation in a positive way. Hope this helps you. Good luck! :-)
  3. Teach SAT/AP/TOEFL in Korea. Get with the right boutique test prep academy, and make up to US $10,000 a month. *NOTE: most general ESL teachers average $2,000 a month. You'll need qualifications, experience, and the proven ability to draw in and retain students to get a contract like this. But it's very possible.
  4. I've never met a teacher who was paid a lot, regardless of where they lived, but I suspect it has to do with what you consider a lot! All of those things that you mention will increase your salary, but one of the problems in teaching is that compared to those in most other professions, while the starting salaries are equivalent, they don't rise at the same rate, so that after ten or twenty years the salary is far below those in other fields.
  5. One of the teaching jobs that earns extra money is a school librarian, because they have two Masters degrees, one in Education, and one in Library Science. There aren't as many positions available, but if you can get one, your salary will be higher.
  6. Head master in private school. Earns a mint. !
  7. you should open a coaching institute in Delhi........
