What are the best future career options for a 20 year old?

I'm currently in college and trying to figure out what I want to do, but would appreciate other's input. My goal is to find a career that is rewarding and enjoyable, but would allow me to retire young if wanted or early if needed. I have other desires in life besides work and want a career that will allow me to have freedom For my career choices, I'm am looking for something that provides the following: - Career that pays well (at least $100K/year, but would prefer $250K/year or more) - Career that will be in demand for the next 50 years - Career that is challenging - Career that allows me to have a life outside of work as well - Career that will allow me to be self-employed. - Career that has the ability to relocate Currently I've thought of the following careers that might allow for these desires, but would like to know what others think.... - Dentist (Specialists) - Financial Planner/Advisor - Real Estate Investor - Lawyer Any other ideas or suggustions? Thanks! Forgot, but also considered being an accountant

  1. I imagine everyone wants a career with the criteria you state. Careers like this usually come with lots of experience. You might have to take it down a peg or two, especially regarding salary.
  2. Professional speaking
  3. Anything big in the medical field...oh and engineering
  4. Shawn, Knowing what you want is the most important ingredient to achieving anything. If your sincere in your question, you know at the age of 20 what your really want. "My goal is to find a career that is rewarding and enjoyable, but would allow me to retire young if wanted or early if needed. I have other desires in life besides work and want a career that will allow me to have freedom" Here's the deal. The choice dosen't have a whole lot to do with that list in you questions, you know, the career options. Here is the real choice: Are you going to settle in life or are you going to accept, achieve, or create what you really want? Most people settle. As they get older they annie up in the game of comparisions and good enough. If you want freedom my friend it can be had. It is no more difficult than the common path, that by the way, in my opinion will not give you what you want. Think about what you really want. Every day. See your self living that life, feel that life and get clear on it. Then go talk to people in those careers you still think could give you that life. If you find that they will not deliver, you have that choice to make again. Do you settle, dismissing yourself as a dreamer or do you decide you wont be denied. Now for some practical answerish sort of stuff. You will be an entrepreneur if you choose freedom, and not just any entrepreneur, believe me. I built a commercial construction firm up to over 2.5 million dollars a year had over 30 employees and during the winter of 2005 was just as trapped as the teller at the bank.
