Which job should I choose while I make a career change?

I'm in the process of changing careers from city planner to holistic health care and I plan on starting with massage therapy. I'm making this change because my personality type just does not work well in a business office environment. After taking a few personality/career assessment tests I've determined that I should be in a career where I can work one-on-one with people who need physical and/or physical care. I still need to make money while I transition. However, I'm staying with my mom while I go back to school so I don't have to pay many bills. My job options are 1) Do some short-term/high-paying work for FEMA where I could save money before going back to school full-time and then get a part-time job, while I'm in school, doing something related to my interests. Or 2) work for the Fed government full-time while going to school full-time at night. Which, sounds terrible to me but then again I'd have steady pay and good benefits (but when would I sleep or study?).

  1. It's a tough decision. But my opinion is that it's always best to get some experience in your area of future work while you're in school. This allows you to build your knowledge base and learn what you'll need to do after graduation. The experience in your field will probably help you find a job after you graduate. And you'll have access to your school's career center to help with job placement for both part time and full time work. You can usually get health care through your school for a fee. The loss of salary will be tough in the interim, but sound like you can make it through with your living situation. So go concentrate on the schooling and make your future happen! Good luck!
