My Dream Career is going down the drain....?
I want to work in Space Science more than anything, but doing that takes a great deal in knowing math...& Math is my worst subject, no matter how hard I try I can't get it right. I was thinking about becoming a Astronomer but again, it takes a great deal of knowing math to become one. So does anybody know any other careers that deals in working with Space Science, but doesn't deal with knowing alot of math.

- Hi, I can not answer your question directly, but wanted to give you a different perspective. Before I started my career in IT - I was often told at school by counsellors, teachers etc., that I just wouldn't make it becuase my math was not good. I sucked at math, in particular algebra/trig etc., But I persevered. I ended up graduating from high school, went on to completing an Accounting diploma from a local college and onto completing a second diploma in Computer Systems Technology and worked as a programmer for several years. Did I need the advanced mathematics? Nope - I've yet to use it. Perhaps if I had worked or had interest in specific areas I may have needed it. I suggest that if this is your dream career, SPEAK to those involved in the area to find out exactly what you need. DO NOT rely on school counsellors -- I proved them wrong. Although I no longer work in IT, I am an Operations Director managing and leading a group of 26 individuals. Had I listened to my counsellors in school I'd probably be begging on the streets. Best of luck in your career and life choices!
- Virtually any science you look at going into will require math through the first few calculus classes at least when you get to college. You should look into tutoring, extra excercises and help from your math teacher after school if you are having trouble with math. You will be able to master it, it will just take you a bit more work than for some other people. If you step back, take a breath and look at your problem logically instead of getting upset, you will be able to learn everything you need to, it will just take more work. Don't let frustration with a single subject turn you away from your dream career.
- If it truly your dream career you will make it happen, even if you have to study twice as long as every one else you can do it. I worked full time and went to nursing school full time, it wasn't easy at first but I studied my butt off and I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, I work In the Operating Room as a 1st assist and to me that is my dream job, BUT it wasn't easy. You can do it, you just have to try.
