Trying to figuire out my "dream career". Where do I go from here?
Since I've graduated high school I have had a problem trying to figure out what my dream career is. At first I went to college for computer programming, then decided on nursing, then went to a career decisions class that my local tech school offered and they matched me up with Marketing: Business to Business degree. I received my associates degree in 2005 and have held 3 different sales jobs which I did not enjoy. I have applied at many marketing assistant/ advertising assistant jobs but never got a call back. I now work at a factory and have gotten pretty depressed with my situation. I know that I don't want to constantly work with customer complaints(but I do like working with people), I prefer a morning Mon-Fri position, I like to move around (not a desk job), and I need something personally rewarding. I'm not really looking for anyone to answer what I should do for a career... but rather resources/referrals on what I should do at this point. So where should I go from here?

- well Im trying to do the same thing... I graduated in 2007 and havent done anything! But ive figured that it depends on first how you like to work alone or in a group like if your a people person or not. Then also what things do you enjoy to do things that make the time pass quickly and you dont even notice. Some of the simplest things you do might give you clues as to what you like Im stilly analyzing here but I think I ve got a clue about what I want well If you do figure out how please tell me how please! Ok good luck ;)
- I'm an engineer in the cellular industry, companies like Verizon, Cingular, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc. Our entry level job is called a "drive tester", which means drive around while a computer has a conversation with a phone: "can you hear me now? Good!" It's good work if you can find it That particular job doesn't require an engineering degree, but we have had people start out as drive testers and learn on the job to become engineers.
- This is the age-old question, isn't it? What to do with myself? I just read a fantastic book about this very thing. It's called "Leading Lives that Matter - What We Should Do and Who We Should Be". It's got short readings in it from the best philosophical minds the world has known in the last 3,000 years -- all talking about finding the "dream career" that's meaningful and right for you. Good luck with it, Josh. I admire you for joining this quest!
- I hate to say it, but it may be worthwhile to go back to school and explore another career path as yet. Or, see what other careers are open to you with your existing degree but are more appealing than those you have previously worked. And, you could always take that degree as a base and build on it with more schooling for a slightly different twist.
