Full Careers

Okay so I took a career interest test through my college and it came back with a high interest in 6 areas....?

so is that why I have a hard time deciding exactly what I would be happy doing? I scored a high interest in : Production services Farming/Environmental Physical Sciences Biological Sciences Politics My personality type is INTJ. The thing is, I like so many different things but I dislike math and computer science (which is the most recommended career/major fields). I like philosophy, thinking, English, anthropology, etc The only thing I can be sure of, I do not want to go back to retail or food service if I can help it. What career area would be good for me. I took this "test" to limit my search, but it just gave more things to consider. Advice for a 32 year old who never wanted a career? I just like so many different things it is hard to eliminate.

  1. Do what ever you think you should do. don't depend on those silly test
  2. ok thats realy good
  3. maybe you should just get a job and then explore your other interests on your free time because unfortuneately there aren't many careers out there for philosophers. you could get a job in the writing field by editing or writing technical information or maybe a career in psychology is something that might interest you?
  4. It seems like you would like to do something where you can be more creative. You like the environment and science. You also enjoy to write. Maybe, you could write for a science magazine. I think you should study Biology and English. While you learn, you will figure out what career you like most in a related field. :) You might want to study newer, more efficient use of energy to help the environment. I think there will be a lot of opportunities relating to greener energy in the near future.
  5. Don't get stuck in a job you don't like. Go and do what you love the most.
  6. Those tests are helpful to assess interest areas, but less helpful when it comes to pointing you toward actual careers. It would appear that your'e organized, a good writer, good follow up skills, maybe a detail-oriented person - there are certainly jobs that require those skills which don't involve math or science. What is your major in school? What degree are you pursuing? Some jobs that might be a fit, depending on your education level - some may require some additional coursework: -teacher/professor -administrative work - admin assistant, HR, project coordinator -not-for-profit work - most NFPs have some paid staff jobs, including fundraising roles, administrative support, disposition and recognition of donations, etc. -speech writer/assistant for political figures - if you live near a major metro area, try getting in at the city level first - that will give you entrees to the state and Federal levels. -copywriter for ad agency/PR firm -administrator or editor for a publishing firm or magazine Think about things you really enjoy and where they might fit into the business world rather than trying to change yourself so you fit into someone else's idea of the "ideal" career for you. Best of luck.
  7. Yeah, if you were just going on those tests, you should be interested in (because INTJ) theories/ideas, and working with ideas more than people. I got INTP and math-computer science is actually my major. But if that's inaccurate, feel free to ignore those results and do what you feel will excite you. Food service sounds like drudgery and you sound like you like intellectual work, but you know better than us specifically what sounds interesting to you.
