Full Careers

Wondering if this sounds okay for career plan?

I'm currently attending a university, and I hate it. I'm not looking to spend 4+ years in school. I want to transfer to the local community college for dental assisting, and since that program is pretty short, I want to get another cert for LPN. That way I'm able to choose between two in demand jobs.

  1. There are 2 ways to look at it. You can do the local community college route get the done and hopefully get a good job soon after. Or you can stick out the 4 years at a school you like in a field you like and hopefully good a better job. Either way its a risk I met people you done these and have some regrets. And others who like there choice they made. Will say this I did earn a degree and although dont have the perfect job that I like still like having something that no one can take away and can give me more choices. Believe its better to earn a degree than not and than wish you had a degree. The plan is good but really think it thru to make sure it's what you want. good luck It's really up to you to
  2. True- Yes while you do have two careers that are relatively in demand (this depends on your area- in mine you would need a Dental Hygienist or RN certification), you need to ask yourself- would you be able to support yourself and a family on what your choice would be? If you can answer Yes, and it is a rewarding career then by all means do what you have mentioned. You should also make sure that which ever you choose, you can easily adapt to a changing market and be willing and able to go back to school if the market dictates. Four year degrees do not necessarily mean everything- some people do very well on and Associates degree. But the careers are typically ones that require a full 2 year program and tend to have harder entrance and graduation criteria. Do yourself a favor and find people that are either in the program currently or have recently graduated- see if they would make the same choice again. Hope this helps- Good Luck.
