How hard is it to get a Career Development Loan with poor credit History?
My partner wants to get out of Minimum wage work and train as a Driving Instructor, but the only funding available is a Career Development Loan. We both have really poor credit caused by years of struggle on low wages, so I can't imagine any high street bank would give us a loan. Would a very poor credit rating mean you would be automatically rejected? If so, does the Government offer ANY HELP AT ALL to low waged, unskilled people who really want to change their lives but can't afford to give up work to do a full time course?

- Actually, if you prove to the bank you are good now, by paying in as much money for say 6 months, and getting a worker at the bank to acknowledge this, it's possible.
- I know someone who was bankrupt who got one of those - and to be a driving instructor too. They are guaranteed by the government, so no real risk to the bank - and they are also aimed at those on low wages/unemployed. He should go for it.
- Hi i am a exactly the same situation as you and would like to become a driving instructor too!!! I'm a single mum on benefits and with really poor credit. I'm quite sure that they will not give me one but like you I'm sooooooooo desperate and I'm already trying to look into other things. Well apparently the only other thing is a Professional Development Loan with HSBC which is pretty much the same !! i still cant find anything else but if i do i will let you know as we are both in the same boat !!! Good luck .....................
