career dog trainer for dog sledding?

I am looking into a career with dogs and I’ve visited a dog sledding tour guide service in Albert Canada and now I’m hooked and want to get a career linked with dog sledding. There isn’t really much info as a career on this type of job but I’m guessing training with a tour guide service would benefit for whatever job I wanted to pick as a dog musher or a trainer for dog sledding. Is there a college course or courses that someone would take to go into these careers or is it mostly apprenticeship?

  1. For any business you want to open classes in business management apply. You should spend a year or two apprenticing under a musher... or maybe a year each for 3 mushers in different geographical areas. This is a year around 24/7 type job. Seeing how it works and how much work it is and THEN deciding if its something you cannot live happily without doing is key.
  2. A musher in Alaska named Jeff King who has won the iderod at least 4 times started out with no training. In the summer he gives tours of his facility outside of Denali park.. If you could intern with him, it would be the best and a wonderful experience for sure.
