Career Change?
I am thinking of having a career change, and since I have always enjoyed working with figures, can you suggest any careers that I could go into? I am a graduate with an ordinary degree in finance, operation research, & mathematics. I live in the West Midlands, England. By the way, I am 40 years old, so have eliminated a lot of possible careers, such as accountancy, since it requires a fair few years of studying and work experience, and by the time I finish all that, I am not sure if someone will give me a job, taking my age into consideration. Many Thanks

- What about working for a research agency in their statistics teams. Lots of playing with numbers all day, plus the interest of seeing what they mean and interpreting them.
- Dude, I am a recruiter and today I have just interviewed a guy who decided to make a career change at 40, so he went and got MCSA certified and now he's working for a Microsoft partner company supporting enterprise clients with server issues. Why don't you do that? He was clearly very, very passionate about what he now does, so he really enjoys his work and on a personal level, it has been good for him to make the change. The downside is that he's not really earning that much money - whilst he may be in his 40s, he's only got a couple of years' experience doing that so is earning the money that a 25-year-old could earn. Generally, people who stay in the same career their whole lives earn more money. So, you need to figure out whether you'd be happier working in a role which you enjoy, or which pays more.
