starting personal training career?

I just started working at a commercial gym as a personal trainer. I am still working on my ACE certification and I'm going to go through their training. I'm very knowledgable with diet and exercise so I know what I'm doing. What are good ways to start building cliental and a good reputation so I will have ongoing clients? Any suggestions? This is all new to me!

  1. First, you need to join professional associations such as IDEA and NSCA to stay abreast of what's going on in the field. Their publications (and Personal Fitness Professional magazine - which is free) will also tell you more about the seminars and conventions you need to go to. You should attend at least one national convention a year. Not only do you learn a lot in the individual sessions, you'll meet trainers both at your level and the leaders in the field. If you want to work on building your business in personal training, make sure you follow the top names like Ryan Lee, Phil Kaplan, Eric Ruth, Bedros Keuilian, and Pat Rigsby. Quick tip: Make testimonials and giving referrals part of your standard procedure when you sign up new clients. Either make sure you mention it to your new clients or include it in the contract if you can. - Stephen Stephen Holt 2003 ACE "Personal Trainer of the Year" 1999 AllExperts.com "Expert of the Year" http://BabyBoomerFitnessAuthority.com
