Jobs in retail mobile phone industry?

I leave the navy in the summer after 22 years service and although a chef by trade i have always been interested in technology and IT. I have just completed a comp tia course but one of my main interests is mobile phones and i am thinking of maybe working in one of the major retail mobile phone shops, i particularly like T-mobile but would consider any of them, my question is to the workers and maybe imployers of these shops. How are the career prospects and whats it like to work in the shops also what training is required or provided and also do you think at age 40 i am too old. I am nicknamed the 40 year old GEEK and i am always advising people on phones and technology. Also i realize the wages are not fantastic but what are the bounuses etc..

  1. most of the higher paying jobs in the IT industry required a combination of experience and education. Usually a bachelors degree is required. although you are older and lack experience, it shouldn't be too difficult to get a retail job at a mobile phone shop. Just go on an interview and be presentable. Some of the bonus to working in a mobile phone shop would be the discounts on service plans / phones.
  2. To get a well paid job in IT you need experiance and good education. However its never to late to follow your dreams!
