What is there left for me?
I am a junior in high school, make A's and B's, and enjoy reading....This is me, at least at this point int time. This question is about the career that we all end up choosing. I have taken two college classes in Information Technology and that was the career that I was interested in, but now I have my doubts. During the course of the classes I couldn't help but notice that some of my peers were naturally gifted in the know how of computers. I, other hand, was not so lucky. I would like to have a career in computers, but can I? I enjoy learning how they work and how use what other don't even know...but what can you do when you see that you're not going to be the best or even close? II would like to continue my training in the Information Technology field, but what's the point if I become nothing but a failure. Any ideas? I willing to hear any one out. And I am truly in dire need of some advice... I'm not sure that I have any talents.

- If you really can't get enough of this field, then keep on going with it. Some people need to work harder than others, and sometimes, that's much more valuable.
- I am not in that field, but I think that it isn't how much outside knowledge you know. As long as you get a degree people will train you to learn whatever you need to know. Then as you build experience you will learn enough to excell and get better jobs. What I believe but not positive.
- >> but what can you do when you see that you're not going to be the best or even close? Not everyone will be the best. But that doesn't mean you can't have a great career. These people you say are naturally gifted now, may end up going into another field, or may find they are not so naturally gifted in a different computer course. Don't be too hard on yourself. Pursue what interests you.
- If you aren't as good with computer programming, but have mechanical skill, you might want to pursue installing and maintaining networking. You still get to use the computer to solve problems with, but you can use your mechanical skill to wire and maintain an entire system. Something else to keep in mind is that you'll realize as you grow older what your natural talents are. I was a somewhat gifted programming student, but my scope was limited to RPG language as a specialty. I was not very good with freestyle programming as I do not have a good imagination. I could fix other people's mistakes, but don't expect too many original ideas to come from my end of the table. I ended up being a systems operator, or sysop, for a couple of major companies before pursuing other interests. You can go all those years and get all kinds of training before you ever discover what it is that you truly love to do for a living. Never give up and don't put all your eggs in one basket. Also, don't focus on the negative, but look at your positive traits and exploit those. Yes, learn what you can from the rest, but really go after the knowledge for what your talent lends. Good luck!
- Go into what you are interested in. You can always change your major if you don't like it. You will learn what you need while there- everyone has to start somewhere. I went through and even graduated before I realized I had majored in the wrong thing! I went back, got the degree I was interested in, and have moved forward from there. You have plenty of time to decide.
