Moving to Canada...any tips?
I am a 28-year old MBA holder and I possess 5 years of working experience in the fields of Marketing, Communications and IT in internationally-renowned organizations. I speak fluent English. I am planning to immigrate to Canada, but was advised to get a job first before moving. However, I heard that potential immigrants have tough times securing a job through online job applications. Hence, would it be better to move to Canada and then get a job? But if I do this, then I would need to go to Canada with a Temporary Resident Visa and then look for a job. Upon obtaining an offer, I will apply for a Work Permit and then begin working. Is this way legal? Are there alternative methods? The problem arises if my Temporary Resident Visa expires and I still cannot obtain employment. I am quite nervous about the move, as extensive research done on the Internet has provided me with a lot of negative information about the fate of immigrant career seekers in Canada.Pls help..thanks Hi defyeo...thanks for ur answer...any chance I can email you for more information? Thanks

- You cant be immigrant if you work in Canada with a Temporary resident Visa, if you do this, it will burn your dream of being an immigrant unless you have an LMO and your work permit application is on process. There is an option of applying for immigration bt here in our country it takes 4 years fastest is 2. If you have the money you can enter as an investor i think you have to invest 350k Cad. 100k goes to the government, M not sure of this, check the CIC website. Having that high educational attainment you have a very good opportunity if you just apply for immigrant status. Don't risk your future working in Canada using temporary resident Visa. For work permit you need to have a Labor Market Opinion. Try to look for companies or agency that offer good jobs in Canada. Or you can go to Canada as a tourist and try to look a company that would hire and process your work permit. Its a major NO NO to work with temporary resident visa, this will make your immigration applicants a less chance of getting approve. I think one major thing to prove to the Canadians is that you are a good tax payer and a good citizen. Hope this would help.
- You cannot work work with a TRV. You must have a work permit, and you will only get one if an employer is willing to get an LMO from the government. If you dont have any "unusual" skills, the employer will be told to hire a Canadian. You can apply to emigrate as a skilled worker. For this you dont need a job, just your past experience and qualifications. Once you land in Canada, then you can get a job, and maybe you might need to do any professional exams. But you also need to have savings. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp Since you dont say what country you are from, I cant say how long the process will take - but the link below will help. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/02a-skilled-fed.asp (processing times)
- My tip, pack a sweater. Your going to need it. cheers.
- As a Canadian who has 23 years of international experience working for multinational companies and having lived in 4 countries I will offer this advice. 1. Get a job before coming. 2. Before and after securing the job, check the company out thoroughly with official Canadian government departments such as Labour and Immigration 3. Don't expect Canada to be like your home country. Too many people want or expect the country they are a guest worker in to be like their country and always complain about the negatives. Make the best of it and focus on the positives (I won't even go into how hard this was working in Saudi Arabia). The problem that you mention about negative info on immigrant career seekers is that degrees and work experience is not the same in Somalia or Vietnam as it is in Canada or the US. I see it alot in the work I do that credentials are impossible to prove and claimed education is usually embellished or falsified (it happens here too). Another issue is being taken by confidence men who claim they can get you jobs and visas for cash up front. Good luck.
