Military Reserves- where do I pursue my civilian career/education?

I'm considering joining the reserves, either Air Force or Marine. Either way, do I pursue a civilian career/education at a location assigned by the military? Oh wait, I think what I'm thinking of is a reserve unit? All I know is that MCAS Miramar is right outside my front door and Camp Pendleton is half an hour away.

  1. I'm a Marine (Active Duty). I'd say the army if your just wanting the college money. Plus its easier for you... OORAH
  2. when you are in a reserve unit you have drill time. this is usually 1 weekend a month and 2 week active duty for training. some money is available for collage/trade school etc but where you go is your choice. The naval reserve unit I was in had members going to several different schools. at least one in now a teacher and two are RNs. there are several good schools in the area where you live
  3. Yes its the Reserves and you can go anywhere, However you also can be deployed anytime be it the fist day of class of the next to last day of the semester right before finals. Happens to kids in my Army Reserve Unit. You have to ask is the money I would be getting for college worth going to Iraq for 18months maybe more? sorry they are young adults I'm just a bit older and been around a lot longer I had almost as much time in service as they did alive (lol)
