How good a job is engineering?
just career cruising and would like to know from all those engineers out there, how is it? Is it a fun and challenging job? How likely is it to get a job after graduation? and how does a typical day go (9-3 doing stuff? or...) do work in one place with tons of other engineers or alone person? overall do you give it -1,0,or1 (1 being the best)

- Engineering is a fine job, whichever branch you choose. Most engineers thoroughly enjoy what they do - the went into it because they like it, not only for the pay, which can be good. Engineers are, in most countries, well respected. In some countries being called Engineer Smith, Engineer 'Whatever', rather like Doctor Smith. There is an exception in the U.K., where to be an engineer is frequently looked down upon, and he or she isn't accorded the respect and widespread recognition that they would have in other countries. I know, I worked in (electronic) engineering all my life. But I enjoyed it. Whether or not it's a 9 to 5 job, or whether you are one amongst many, depends on the particular job/company etc. I was fortunate. I was a travelling engineer. Troubleshooting, teaching, demonstrating all over the world, usually on my own. Not many jobs are like that.
- If you enjoy head scratching, you'd probably like to become an engineer. The pay is relatively decent, but not a lot. The job is respective, but only at a medium level. Career life for certain engineers are relatively short, especially if you are a software engineer. Let me put it this way, if I can turn back the clock, I won't like to become an engineer.
