I have a felony on my record for a 3rd degree arson charge. I want to return back to college..?
To continue my education. I am running into the problem of finding out what careers I can still do. My passion in live is Nursing.. but I understand that may not be an option right now considering the vunerable adult act. What feilds can I still gain employment in that most technical colleges offer. I would consider and enjoy a career in cosmotologey (however I'm worried about the manager licensing part, would this pose as a problem) I would also ove to go for nursing if there was a way. I want to return this fall though if I wait now.. I will more than likely never return.. so what careers can someone with a felony still do as a career?

- It's really going to have to be on a case-by-case basis for both the college and the employer. For any career that has public interaction, your employer could actually be found liable if they knowingly hire a felon (regardless of what the conviction was for) as the person as shown/proven that they've been unable to abide by the law. The employer could be held at fault should the employee commit a crime against a fellow co-worker or a customer/patient. The risk of ending up on the "wrong side of the law," and knowing that if things go badly, the company could risk losing a lot of money will often discourage employers from hiring people with criminal records, even if it has been years since your charge. Hospitality, Medical, Education and Sales are fields that are likely to be high-risk for an employer to hire anyone with a felony conviction. Good luck.
- People make mistakes, and it sucks that society will never let you forget about the mistakes you have made in the past by keeping it in our records forever. To tell you the truth, any profession in the health-profession would be impossible because of liscensing problems. I know medical and pharmacy and nursing schools and probably even teaching wouldnt accept you. I am sorry. I am actually in a similar situation. And the you also have to worry about getting a job after you get a degree causeyouhave to tell employers about your felony. Have you thought of taking outa loan just opening a business (like a subway, gas station,...) and screw college?
