Technical School Tuition help. (parents have bad credit)?

I'm plan on attending a technical college, locally here in Louisville. But, I have a dilemma. My parnets have bad credit, so they can't co-sign a loan for me I mean they would, but would be inevitably declined. I can't help that my parents have bad credit. The good part is that I work for UPS, and they cover up to nine grand of my tuition, which brings the total to thirty-one Grand. I have always wanted to attend this school. I'm seeking a career in Network Security. I'm 19 years old, so, I can't take a loan out by myself. If there isn't any other way, I will ask my grandma or aunt, to co-sign for me. It isn't fair that my parents are holding my education back, just because they had hard times. What can i do?

  1. Try to get a Grant........
  2. you can take a student loan out for yourself. The interest rate is cheaper than if your parents co-signed, and you usually don't have to pay it back until after you graduate and start working! one is the Stafford loan, its a good one check it out> also go to the school and talk to the counselor, they will know of any in house scholarships or financial aid in your state. I have 2 boys in school, 1 in tech and one at a university, both have received assistance from our state because of our income, have you inquired about the pell scholarship? you will be surprised, it may not cover everything, but both my boys basically have $ left at the end of their semesters, kinda like getting paid for going to school! good luck!
  3. I would seriously consider looking at other options. Most people go to technical schools because they are cheaper than universities and community colleges. What you are looking at is called a "Proprietary" school. A school set up strictly for profit. If you shop around, I'm sure you will find a similar degree at the local community college or state school for a reasonable amount of money. 40K is ludicrous... most schools 2 or 4 year are less than 2000.00 a semester. (Look at several you can pay for with the entire assistance from UPS or with just Stafford loans - these don't require parents to cosign or a credit check on you). Here is a publication about the maximum Stafford Loan amounts.
