Full Careers

What career is right for me? Electronics Technology? HVACR? Something else?

I've been having trouble choosing a career path for the last few years. I have an AS in general studies, but I can't decide what I want to do now. I want to go back to school and continue my education. I like working with my hands, and I'm told I have an eye for detail. I'm not crazy about math, though. I looked into majoring in electronics in college, but only two people signed up for the classes, so they were canceled. I'm looking into attending a technical college nearby, and they have a few electronics programs. I'm just not sure what kinds of careers are available in that area. They also have HVACR training, which looks interesting too. Again, I'm just not too sure what is available in these fields. I want a career that has at least decent pay; enough to live comfortably on. And something that won't require me to work 50-60 hours a week, every week, like I've seen my parents do way too many times. I'd also like something that's not the same exact thing day in, day out. Thanks.

  1. Forget all that get CTA certified and make the big bucks. 50-60 hours is nothing - don't be wuss.
  2. I've been in the HVAC field for over 25 years. The pay is good and there is always plenty of work.
  3. When you are looking at a career, always think about one thing. Where is the money coming from? Example: HVAC, mainly businesses Automotive Technology - expensive cars Trucking technology - electronics Medical Equipment From experience, follow the money. As Kojak would say, "Who loves you baby." Find out.
