Advice for aspiring graphic artist on education/career path?

Im graduating in August with an AA in Digital Arts. I have a mortgage and my husband has a great job so I cant go out of town to study and Bakersfield, CA has no Bachelor level programs in anything related to the Graphic Arts. I was wondering. What should I do? Should I do some freelance work to build my portfolio? Try get an entry level job? Do an online degree? Im at a loss. My instructors just say get a BA but Im kinda stuck in this town. For Plarmiumya: That site is not relevant to me at all. Im really not interested in Fashion Design and I am already very proficient in Adobe Illustrator. I hope that wasnt a shameless plug.

  1. not sure here, the real choices would be yours, suggest first getting an entry level job if possible to help pay down loans and bills, then look at BA, if not this year, try next, and meanwhile create a portfolio for futures jobs, this may vary cause of life changes, family, locations, finances, if you can afford to get BA without out going in greater debt, that may be better in the long run, good luck,☺ read other answers, ..

  3. Since you can't leave to get your BA, I would recommend finding a freelance job and looking into getting an online degree. I got my first freelance illustration job when I was still in high school, and I'm sure you know much more about the software after going to college for Digital Arts than I did in high school. Try advertising your services in a local newspaper, and asking around to find a freelance job. Even if nobody you know has a job for you, they might just know somebody who does. Good luck, I hope everything works out for you!
