Asking experienced web developers for career advice...?

I'm at a turning point in my life where i have defined myself as a struggling entrepreneur. i am very facinated with the internet/web 2.0/e-biz and am considering becoming a web developer. reason is i have great web based ideas that i want to give life to but i'm relatively new to this industry. my background is in business and am pursuing my mba. but i am considering stopping my mba to go to devry or someplace that offers instructional programs on web development in a classroom environment. (what do you think about devry's program). i am considered taking a webmaster or web database developer online course through "gatlin educational courses" because this would be faster but i am hesitant w/ online teaching (any experiences w/ gatlin or similar courses?) questions: 1) i basically want to learn the trade as fast and efficient as possible, i don't have many years to dedicate, what should i do or where should i go? 2) any thoughts on devry or ITT or Gatlin? 3) earning potential?

  1. 1) If you want to learn about internet/web 2.0 and become a web developer, you should focus on AJAX. This basically means Javascript, HTML, XML, and CSS. 2) Don't know much about Devry/ITT/Gatlin. What about taking courses at a college or university? 3) Earning potential will depend on your level of experience as well as location. You can google this info.
  2. I tried the community college run for a bit and they were very outdated in the software they had, so I got my web development degree at ITT. I enjoyed it very much, and even though our main teacher was insane, I still learned a lot. With that said, I dont yet have a job in my field because once I was out of school, I decided I didnt want to develop web apps for the rest of my life, and Im back at ITT for the Bachelors program in computer security so I can go work at the CIA. They hired 3 grads last year, so Im hoping for the best! As for online teaching, Ive never tried it, but I dont trust it either
