- They use AutoCAD Student Portfolio software. I've never used it, but it seems to be a full version that puts a watermark on the drawing when it is printed. I don't believe that AutoCAD is not as necessary for a CE as for an ME. I would suggest that you skip this course. If you do end up in a job that requires it, then you will have access to the software at work. That is the expensive part of learning AutoCAD. The full version costs several thousand dollars. Once you have access to the software, invest in a good AutoCAD book and spend a few hours at the end of each day learning how to use it. I had one course in AutoCAD when I was an ME undergrad- 10 years ago. I hadn't used it since then until my current job. I had completely forgotten how to use it and picked it up using a book I picked up a Barnes and Noble for $40.
