Will it ever be possible for me to be a Veterinarian?
Ever since I was in Kindergarten I always wanted to be a Veterinarian... now i'm in grade 9, and i'm starting to think that my dream is impossible. My school is small and doesn't have that many varietys of classes to take, and in my science class right now i'm only getting a 70 percent, but i'm trying really heard to get better, and in my math class I got a 75 percent, but a 90 in the exam. I'm took all academic classes too (the harder ones). I heard off career cruising that you need to get high marks in your classes, but i'm not getting exceptionly high marks. i'm really worried I won't get in, because the schools are so competetive, theres only like 3 or 4 Vet schools in Canada. I'm starting to think a Vet Tech might be a better idea for me, but the pay isn't very good. What else can I do to higher my chances of getting into a vet school? I'm trying to get higher marks and i'm thinking about going to a vet hospital for community service in the summer.

- Just keep studying and do your best in math and science. Maybe you're not getting the best grade right now, but that can change as you get older and smarter.
- You could easily be a veterinary technician and work with all the same animals that the vet does... You need to be able to pull almost all A's with only a couple of B's in high school to be a Vet. Remember a Vet is a doctor, has to perform surgeries and go through lots of schooling. It is just as hard to be a Dr. of Veterinary medicine as it is to become a Doctor that works on humans.
- go to that vet hospital, stay hopeful, and i know you'll make it there! good luck! :D
- anything is possible.you just have to find all the opportunities u can to build you way up and you have to believe in yourself and work hard. think of your school education and dreams instead of partying or whatever and your work will pay off. do whatever it takes to get to vet school. dont pass up any of the opportunities, but make sure you get your priorities straight and dont try to juggle everything in at once.(when life gives you lemons, make lemonade)
- I dont know the way things work with vets in Canada (Im from the US) but I have worked in the field a bit myself as a tech. If your heart is set on being a vet, then you can not give up on that. You may have to go to another university first to bring up grades before you get into vet school (alot of people do this). You should also consider going to school out side of Canada as well. One of the best schools for vets (as far as we are concerned here in the US) is located on St. Kitts in the Virgin Islands. They are about the same price as well. You have plenty of options you just need to do a bit more research and see what qualifications you need. I think your idea of volenteering at an animal hospital or animal shelter is a great idea!!! Showing the schools that you are takeing your personal time to spend it with the animals is very important and shows them that a piece of your heart really wants this. Keep working hard in school, I know that the next few years are going to get bogged down with teenager stuff that tends to get in the way... but keep your head in the books. At a young age you really have direction, and if you remember that with everything you do, your goals will be acomplished one day. Good luck hun... I wish you the best of luck.
- You're getting things out of order. Veterinary school comes after college. You're just in 9th grade, the first year of high school in other words. Here's the correct order. (1) Take the college preparatory sequence of classes in high school. (Sounds like you're already doing that. Keep it up.) (2) Go to a decent college for your Bachelor's degree. Major in something relevant. Biology would be good; English not good. You must get excellent grades since competition for vet school is fierce, and there aren't very many such schools anyway. (3) Go to Veterinary school. This will get you your D.V.M. (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine).
