  1. First let me say kuddos to you for raising a baby that you didn't even have. You must be a very special person. I believe that homeschooling is the best way to raise up a child. My kids went to public school, then christian school and then I home schooled. I believe that home schooling is the best. As a close second would be a church school that teaches and believes most of what you do.
  2. It is not selfish. Yeah everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. If you are planning on running your own daycare then that will be good because your sweet little nephew can interact with other children. Involve your nephew in as many social settings as you can. Perhaps when he gets older, start sending him to a public school. You don't want to shelter him too much. :)
  3. I don't think your being selfish...it's a win, win situation to me...he will get a better education having some one to teach him one on one and you'll learn the skills you need...as for the socialization it is true...just make sure he's around other kids..take him to the park, let him join a sport...but do what you feel is right in your heart, this is your decision no one Else's
  4. Your choice to homeschool your child based upon your desire to acquire skills is wrong and entirely self-serving. The correct choice would be to consider what would be in the best interests of your nephew. If that choice happpens to be homeschooling cool. If not cool as well.
  5. im not a big fan of homeschooling for a few reasons.the biggest is they social skills the child wont learn.another is the fat that not many parents are qualified teachers and the child will lack certian criteria for getting a decent job not to mention college. if you want to open a daycare i suggest u take some child education courses at your local junior college you may need them for certification.at least try babysitting a few kids at the same time
  6. i hope i can help out with this. i am 18 now, and i was homeschoold from preschool until third grade.(im a well adjusted college student now) my mom taught high school before i was born, and when i was little she taught me and five other kids i knew. i loved it and wouldnt change it for the world. what you need to make sure is that he has plenty of opportuniy to interact with other children his age to ensure he stays well rounded. maybe organize a play group. also, make sure you have a good cirriculum from him to learn from so he doesnt fall behind the other kids his age in school academically. check in your area for what support networks they have for parents who homeschool. they almost always have some sort of network to help give you support and lesson plans and that sort of thing. this would also be a good place for him to meet other kids and for you to get some support teaching him and starting your daycare. i hope this helps and if there is anything else i can answer for you, email me at lokdog2006@yahoo.com (sorry this is so long)
  7. I have 5 children. I homeschool 3 of them. 2 are foster children or they would be homeschooled too. I love homeschool. They are much more advanced than public schools. My 16 year old will graduate this year. I have no problem with their social skills because there is always church, homeschool programs(with other children), they are even allowed to play sports in our county if they wanted to. It takes a lot of work and dedication but the long term pay off is outstanding. We use Alpha Omega home school programs.
  8. Although your reason for homeschooling (experience)is unique, it is a great way to educate a child, and yourself as well on caring for and teaching children.
