How do you know which career path to take?

How do you figure out what you want to do in the future? Right now I'm in 10th grade and I'm so confused about what to do. I've taken a bunch of quizzes online but I don't know if I should be listening to quizzes... When I was younger, I wanted to become a singer, dancer or an actor. But now I think I'm too shy. I wanted to be an artist but my mom isn't supportive of that and it's difficult for artists nowadays to make a living...and my art isn't unique or anything. Lawyer... I'm not really good at reasoning. Doctor....my mom's always encouraging me to work in the health field but Health seems so boring. Sure I want to help people, but a lot of people want to go into that field and I want to be different. Point is, I think find a flaw in every career. What should I do? Should I take more quizzes or get career counseling? Should I wait a few more years? Any ideas? Thanks

  1. See your school counselor and get involved in Teen Leadership at school.
  2. Well, you're still quite young, so it's ok if you're not sure what you want to do yet. Some people don't commit to a career path until their first or second year of college. If you fall into this category, know that it's ok if you have to wait until a certain college course "speaks to you". There are two important things I suggest you focus on doing: 1) Have an open mind. Try looking at things in ways you may not have in the past. For instance, you'd be surprised how exciting the health field can be. Doing something like helping women bring their babies into the world would be full of excitement and special moments every single day! 2) Stop focusing on the negative. It seems like you're stuck on what you "can't" do or what "isn't" a good idea. What are you good at? What do you like to do? Try to focus on the positives and be kind to yourself... you'll figure it out. =) To your prosperity, Epiphany
