Grad school for marketing, pr, or advertising?
Hi folks, So I'm in a bind, or 'that moment in my life'. Come spring I will be a graduate from college. I'm a communications/film major from a university with a good reputation for those programs, but my GPA isn't that high (slightly over 3). I would like to do something in the advertising/marketing/pr field, does anyone have any suggestions on what grad schools to look into or how they went about applying? I would like to take a year off to work and clear my mind, then hopefully get into grad school then. I've used petersons.com, gradschools.com but most of it is blind searching, and the career and counseling center @ my school is not too helpful at the moment.

- Why limit yourself to advertising, marketing, or pr? Pimping and stealing will give your the same satisfaction without the extra 2 years of school.
- Well, I've gone through the process of applying to grad school twice, once to get my MBA and the other to get into a Ph.D. program in marketing. A GPA above 3.0 will not hurt you at all but the top schools. Your GMAT score will probably count a bit more and should be at least 550, which is about the 50th percentile, but preferably 600, which is the 70th percentile. Good recommendations from your previous professors and maybe employers can help, especially if the professors are well known in your desired area of study. Beyond that, having a good attitude and being able to answer the questions "Why do you want to come to this school and why do you want to study ...?" will go a long way to helping go where you want to.
