Career Change?
I have worked in the music industry 15 yrs. I left to start my own business last year. This has not worked out and I need to get back to the workplace. I am 45 years old and going back to the music industry is probably not an option. Anyone with similiar experience? if so how did you get out of this situation. Any advice greatly appreciated.

- Update your resume first of all. What all have you done, what have you learned? And most important, what is it you really want to do? Why has your business not worked out? Are you flexible to move? What can you bring to any job your interested in? Once you can answer all these questions, go to job boards and post the resume, look in your local paper for jobs and send out resumees. And at interviews, dont forget that you have the advantage of knowing what you can and can not do, the experience you have and teh maturity. Good Luck.

- Petra makes some great points. The only thing I would add is that additional education or training can go a long way. Even if you've never done a particular job before, finding training or getting a degree can make you a very attractive candidate. Then, just keep in mind that the dream job may not happen immediately. But you can use each job as a stepping stone to get you closer. Figure out your long-term goal and only take jobs that will help get you there.
