Career advice and stuff?
I graduated from college over a year ago, and have been waiting tables since. I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology/Criminology, and haven't been able to put it to use. I am actually not sure what it is that I want to do, but I've been discouraged more by the fact that most social work jobs require a master's degree. I keep thinking that it's not even what I want to do, and so I am having trouble figuring that out. I have been job-searching for a year and I've been on a few interviews for b.s. jobs that I found on job search sites. I haven't even been called back for a second interview for crappy jobs! Does anyone have any advice about how to figure out what you want to do as a career, and how to go about finding a decent entry-level job?

- With your degree you can always get a job in Children's Protective Services. That will be a good stepping stone for other government jobs. Also, utilize the placement office of the college you graduated from. Besides job listings, they have career inventory tests you can take. Good luck.
- Unfortunately a degree in sociology/criminal justice does not really qualify you for a job in social work (you may be able to get a job in Child protective only if there are not a lot of social workers in your community - e.g. people with a BSW or MSW degree - this is probably why you are not getting a call back). Now your degree does qualify you for jobs in the criminal justice side (you might consider being a police officer, working for TSA or related areas). Probation and Parole are increasingly looking for folks with an MSW. There are career aptitude tests you can take and career counseling services you can use (if you still live near the school you went to I would go to their career services program, they can really help you).
