Career advice?
I'm studying accounting at a local university but I hate everything about accounting. I get low grades because I can't stand the work I do and I half-a$$ all my homework. I don't really understand alot of the material and I'm not sure I would apply myself much in this career. I am seriously thinking about switching majors to criminal justice. A friend of mine told me that you can't get any good jobs with criminal justice. I don't want to do something I hate (accounting) but I also don't want to get a degree I can't use (criminal justice) I also have military service (Marine Corps) which would help in getting a criminal justice type of job. Any advice?

- get into a trade of some sort
- Depending on where you are, it is true jobs in accounting is much more needed than criminal justice BUT your service in the military is a strong buster, if this is what you want, do it, there are especially need probation officers and hey maybe you should think about becoming an investigator at your local station. I'm excited for you and i personally thank you for your good service to the country.
- You can get lots of good jobs with a criminal justice degree. What is your friend talking about? And any degree at all, even if its a bachelors of painting acrylic dogs will open more doors for you. Search the internet for jobs with a criminal justice degree
- Forget what your friend said. Forget about how big a field is or how easy it is to get a job in it or how much it pays. The only thing that matters is doing what you love. The paycheck isn't worth the misery of hating what you do every single day. If you really love what you do, if you're passionate about it and interested in it, you will excel in that field and find jobs and opportunities you wouldn't know about otherwise. Check with the career counseling office on your campus and ask for some career interest diagnostic tests. These can help you narrow down your interests and point you towards the fields you really enjoy. If criminal justice is what really excites you, then of course you can find jobs in that area - you can be a parole officer, a judge, a district attorney, a "scared-straight" mentor for at-risk teens, anything. Don't let your friend limit you - do what you love, and the job will follow.
