Marriage counselor?
Eventually my career goal is to open my own psychological practice that focuses on marriage counseling. I thought I should be entering college in the psychology field but someone said that wasnt right, that I should be looking for Human services. Which is the better route for me? I know I'll have to continue onto get my masters & possibly phd. Thanks!

- go for psychology
- get the degree first than think where you want to go,human services is in more demand than counsellor.
- You will need a degree in Psychology and if you intend on being able to prescribe medication then you'll have to go to Medical School. Human Service? Your "source" is no source at all.
- You can get your undergrad degree in pretty much anything. Get your masters in Social Work-this will enable you to open your own practice (as an LICSW, 3 years after you graduate and take the exams) and have a background in all sorts of counseling and research to back it up. Or, if you want to do straight counseling, you can get your masters in that, but I don't think they offer a lot of schooling in being in practice for yourself, it's mostly focued on clinical work. Good Luck!
