Career Satisfaction Survey?
I need answers to various questins from adults in differing careers/jobs. It's for a psychology class. Please answer the following questions: Current Career Field: Age: Gender: 1. What do you consider to be th ethree most important characteristics of a satisfying career? Rank in Order most to least. a. b. c. Are there other characteristics you think are important? If so, which? 2. What characterisitcs of a job or career would turn you away from that profession? List three, rank in order most to least. a. b. c. 3. What would be, for you, the ultimate career or occupation? Explain why. 4. Is your ultimate career the career you have now? If not, how much does your current occupation relate to your ultimate career? If it does not relate at all, explain why you have not pursued your ultimate career occupation. 5. How important is your career in achieving overall happiness and satisfaction in life (in general)? Explain your answer. 6. What advice do you have for college students currently in the process of choosing an occupation?

- Ok I'll bite but man couldn't you make this shorter? Chemical Process Tech 37 Male 1a You don't mind getting up in the morning and going to work 1b at least make enough money to live on 1c at least a mild interest in what you do 2a Dreading going to work every day 2b can't live on salary 2c Can't stand the people I work with 3 own a bike shop; I love racing and riding bicycles. I define myself more in terms of Being a bike racer over what I do for a living. 4 No not at all but I'm kind of a tech head, I've always interested in science, engineering and physics and that part of me fits with my job. I'm not in my ultimate career because it doesn't pay. This is where the realization of life hits. Someone asked a question on here about having a degree in Theater and not being able to find a job. The responses were great, mine was "This is a perfect example of what people want to do and what people actually get paid to do" The funniest response was "Awh come on you had to see that one coming" Very very few people actually make a living from the theater and even fewer live at a median income. So it all comes down to money. 5 like I said before I don't define my self by a "career". I define myself through my daughter, bike racing, friends, etc. My "career" or "job" is a means to facilitate those things. So what's important to me in a "career" is: 1 pays the bills with enough left over for the pursuit of real life 2 I have at least a mild interest and skill 3 I don't hate where I work. 6. I went to school and took LASER's and Electronics. I liked them and was interested in them and they are marketable skills. So If you love something that pays well go for it. If you love something that doesn't pay then go to school for the next best thing that does pay and make your love your hobby or past time. Or for example like the theater person, if they like math and money they could have become a CPA and went to work for a theater and wormed their way from there. Remember your degree(s) don't mean anything if you can't eat! Passion doesn't pay the bills You are not defined by your degrees and careers but by the type of people you surround yourself with and in how you treat them.
- Hi, I'm retired now however I was in marine related employment for the whole of my wage earning career. Merchant navy, Deck Officer 58 Male 1a Interest b enjoyment c stretch ones ability. an ability to get on with most people. 2a Boredom b being stuck in one place c the attitude of other workers 3 I had it, however now the various World Governments have made the job a criminal offence if any accident happens, thus retired sadly. 4 It was up to about 2001 5 It has a great part to play, when not satisfied with the job home life became difficult if not impossible.

What characteristics of a job or career would turn you away from that profession? List three, rank in order most to least. a. having a bad manager b. feeling unappreciated c. dealing with customer service/desk position 3. What would be, for you, the ultimate career or occupation? Explain why. Nurse. I have been working hard to my myself through CNA school and now College to become a Nurse and I am very Proud that I did it all on my own. I love working with people... I love the interaction. 4. Is your ultimate career the career you have now? No If not, how much does your current occupation relate to your ultimate career? I am currently a certified nursing assistant, it is a stepping stone, because it gives me experience to learn from while in school If it does not relate at all, explain why you have not pursued your ultimate career occupation. N/A 5. How important is your career in achieving overall happiness and satisfaction in life (in general)? Explain your answer. Additional Details It will improve the quality of life for me financially, but most of all, I would be making a difference by caring for others. It gives me a great sense of purpose. 6. What advice do you have for college students currently in the process of choosing an occupation? If you do not know what you want to do, taking general courses until you are sure of what career you want to pursue is a good idea. I also have a graphic design degree - I don't believe in forcing creativity... that is not how it works. My first degree ruined my favorite hobby needless to say. After being out of school and trying out multiple jobs... i realized what I really wanted to be.

Explain your answer. very important - i need to be stimulated by my work, being active and learning new skills
