I need some advice with a career choice...?
I will graduate from college next month with a degree in comp. science. For some reason, a few months ago, I seem to have lost interest in my major even though I still like computers. I've had other majors in the past, like accounting & computer engineering & had considered library science. I took a career assessment test recently, & it said I'm better off having a career in industrial arts, science, and clerical work. I've looked up industrial arts online but can't really find anything. Any advice on what type of career I should have? I feel bad because I'm this far along in school & still not completely sure. Some of my interests include computers; forensics (BIG CourtTV fan); French; math; working with my hands & machines; writing. I prefer not to do social work/ work with the public.

- Have you considered looking into positions with law enforcement? I would imagine that computer data ofter plays a key role in prosecution cases and people who know computers and could retrieve that data might be in demand. Also, prosecutors and defense attorneys both use expert testimony in all kinds of law suits. Again, someone with computer knowledge might be just the person they need to use as an expert witness. The foreign language component could be especially beneficial for a national or international law enforcement agency, although I'm sure advanced training would apply. If not a public law enforcement agency, what about private investigative services? I would think any or all of these field would benefit from an individual who has strong computer skills, good written communication skills, and enjoys working independently. Good Luck!
- You are actually not qualified to work in social work, so unless you were going to go on for additional training this would not even be an option for you. IA is becoming less prominent in H.S. but becoming more a feature in technical colleges. You might look at this as an option. You might consider computer repair rather than the programming side (and or building computers for people). DA
