My resume seems not to grab employers attention. What do I need to do to improve it.?

Objective: To secure an Administrative Assistant position in an interesting field which will challenge my abilities allowing me to fully utilize my communication, organizational, and problem solving skills. Skills/Qualifications: · Excellent communication and computer skills · Dependable, pleasant and hard-working · Good at multitasking · Proven administrative, secretarial and general office experience · Over 4 years proven experience in the administrative field Experience: Bertie County JobLink Career Center Windsor, N.C.   2. For your objective, I would be specific for the position you want, instead of putting "an interesting field".
  3. employer have little time to spell out your resume. sorry for that one it's all about the design, i'll hire someone who has a well developped designed resume instead of the line up of the words so get in contact with a designer or photoshopper good luck
  4. Your skills and qualifications are too vague. Also, your objective is too wordy. The experience section is unorganized and looks like a combination of skills/experience. Have you had any other jobs or just the one? That could be part of the problem.
  5. Be more detailed. Explain computer skills. What programs. You say proven how? Any awards, certificates? How much experience? Two weeks or 20 years?
  6. You might have better luck customizing your resume to the specific field that you are applying to. Your objective and experience is too fluffy. Almost everyone wants to be challenged in an interesting field. You might try a summary instead of an objective, which highlights certain things you feel most strongly about that would be of interest in that particular field. You make no detailed mention of your responsibilities, your productivity levels or how you improved the last places you worked. Look back to those items for starters and good luck. If people do not hire you, ask if they'll give you some critique on why you didn't get the position or interview. Make sure to list your computer software skills and typing speed.   7. Actually I think that your resume reads fine. As someone who has hired from resumes here are a couple of thoughts. Have you centered your objective - your name Have you made good use of white space - so that the resume reads easily? The other thing that you did not mention that you might want to consider is your cover letter. People have received interviews with me because there was something different in their cover letter. I had one person who sent me flowers asking for the interview. He got the job - Cover letters show creativity, personality - resumes should just list the facts Good Luck
  8. As an employer I always look to see words that show me actions such as Improved, Successfully, Under my direction Also I want to see it on one page or at the very most 2. Show me and tell me why I need to hire you Tell me that you will be an excellent addition and that you are excited and always give 110% and take ownership of your position. Understand that there are thousands of people looking for a new or better job, You have to sell yourself to me so that I will not just pass by your resume. It is mundane to look for new people and I want the best for my company and only the best. Prove it to me so that I will call you.
  9. I agree with what everyone else said. That you are words and adjectives are too vague. Try something like this for your objective: Position in Administrative Assistant. or this: To obtain a administrative position with varied background in providing support services including document preparation, information processing, scheduling, data entry, and coordinating staff work. This might even work: An entry-level position in office management. This might even work: Seeking an administrative assistant position that will provide an opportunity for advancement and future growth within the company.( I had use this one and it has gotten me a couple of interviews). Go the monster.com and look at their sample resume. They have a lot of good objectives on the internet. Ask an professional to critique your resume, they can do wonders with resumes. We want to make sure that the objective is short and to the point. Watch for wordly words. Good luck!
  10. Rough guide: - Treat it as QnA. Qualifications should be "answers" to the job requirements or job on hand. - Words paraphrased in "..." denotes subjective phrases. Let the hirer be the judge. Each industry and company is different. - Cover letter and keep your cv to 3 sides tops. Corporations have lots to go through. - Try submitting to the same company in 2 or 3 intervals, say 1 to 3 months, sometimes HR or payroll takes the top 50 letters and junks the other 1000 (although they should not be doing so). Qualifications: "Excellent communication" such as.. ? organised meeting for 40 people ? and; "computer skills" with what programs ? 50 wpm ? sorting ? "Dependable, pleasant...", how so?making sure boss is on time for meeting? "pleasant"; how so? Greeting customers ? despite nasty customer ? "hardworking?" how so? putting in more than x hours when y hours required of you? or getting x task when y required ? "Good" at multitasking, such as? making reservations whilst doing x and y ? "Proven" administrative, secretarial and general office experience, what are administrative, secretarial, general office duties ? Over 4 years "proven experience" in the administrative field, at least here, 4 years is quanitfied, some companies regard 4 years as too much experience, ie too expensive staff, whilst others regard 4 years as being junior.
