does anybody think its not the right time to start a Real Estate Sales career?

I passed my salesperson course but, every one I talk to is telling me it is a bad time to sell Real Estate because the market is terrible but I have invested my time and money in this and its been two months and I dont know if to take the test or look for another career option what do you guys (and ladies ) think? should I go ahead like I planned get licensed and wait for the market to get better or skip it and do something else. by the way I really like the business.

  1. First, I have a question for you; how long does it generally take to get your license if you decide to put it off at this time? Secondly, I suggest that you sign with an employment/ temp agency and maybe you can work for a mortgage company until the market picks up. GOOD LUCK!!
  2. I think you deserve an honest answer so here it is. Real estate sales is a very difficult job, it's not that there is anything difficult but it more a job where who you know really counts. In a really good market new people can come in and start a career without too much trouble as many did over the past few years but in markets where sales are slowing it becomes a cut throat industry where newcomers are at a huge disadvantage. Right now sales are declining every month and this trend is likely to continue for some time. The Fed just lowered rates to hel;p out the mortgage market but the cat is already out of the bag and sales will only get worse for some time to come. The fact is prices went up too fast and too far and now we have to pay the piper. To make a long story short this is a terrible time to start a real estate sales career. I would strongly suggest that you look into getting in on the rental side, with all the people soon to be getting foreclosed on they will need a place to stay and will be renting. When the sales market comes back you will be in a good position to take you rental clients with you for sales leads.
  3. You have come too far to not become licensed. Get your license for now. The real estate market changes, just look at the past. In the meantime, there must be something else that you could do and enjoy. You have sales knowledge. I hope that this helped some and go for it !! Ruth
