How do I transition my career to Business Management or Employee Development? I've worked in technical maintenance, computers, and robotics most of my life. I sort of "fell into" my current career path because of my love of technology and analytical skills. In 2005 I graduated with my bachelors degree in Business Administration. I did pretty good by graduating C.um Laude with a GPA of 3.5. I've learned that a have a strong desire to be envolved in employee development. Particularly in implementing an effective employee evaluation program that instills intrinsic motivation and encourages employees to improve skills and performance and add value to their company. I can't express how passionate I am about this. I need to make 65K plus per year to support my family and pay off college loans. What type of career should I pursue and how should I transition with very little former experience? wow... no one is answering this... I didn't expect that.

Is Computer Programming / Business Application Developer a good career? Is a career in computer programming, software development, a good career now and in the future? Any input will be appreciated. How much can I expect to make? Will there always be a job for programmers? I've heard of offshoring but I think programmers will always be needed. Please advise. Thanks.
What math skills learned in class do community college Workforce Development graduates use on the job? I 'm a math education graduate student with the goal of obtaining a faculty position at a community college. I am interested in learning more about Workforce Development at community colleges. I am embarrassed to admit that, although I enjoy doing math and thinking about mathematical concepts for their own sake, I rarely use these skills for anything practical. With the above question, I want to compare and contrast the required math courses for various Workforce Development programs and the math actually used in these fields on the job itself. From this, I hope to learn how effective and relevant are community college math course curriculums for Workforce Development careers on the job in WD fields (i.e. nursing, electronics, nuclear medicine).
Would the fact that you are an architect be benficial in pursuing a career in real estae development? Im shallow. I like architecture alot, but i dont love it with all my soul. I am very artistic and I would really enjoy the prestige of being an architect, however, I think i want to go for the money, aka, get into differnet carrer. I am currently in an architecture program and in order to ever get licensed i need to get my masters. I cant decide whether to get my masters, become an architect, and later transition into a construction project manager or get into a corportate real estate firm, or, the other option is mayby just get my bachelors in Arch, then get an MBA, and do the same. The problem is, I dont want to regret not becoming an architect, but then again, I really am a shallow person and i want more money younger. Is it worth it to become an architect? Would that give me any adavatnge, along with an MBA, in the world of corporate real estate?

Career prospects for 47 year old IT Analyst in the UK? Ive been working in IT development for over 25 years, mainly on large mainframe based systems in the telecoms sector. My company has recently announced a series of outsourcing plans and has an active redundancy policy. I am therefore wondering what my future employment prospects are. I am especially worried as I am the wrong side of 40. Does anyone know how active the UK IT employment scene is, especially in the south east?

What is the best way to re-train for a career in computer programming? I would like to train in software development / internet design. I have already dabbled with VB, SQL and HTML. What is the best way to get qualified, (courses / from books). What qualifications to go for? Degrees or Microsoft Exams etc and which? Sorry there are a lot of questions here, but when starting out there are so many languages, courses etc on offer, that it is hard to know where to begin, and what employers are after. I have had various contract positions but nothing perm.It seems to me that people are figuring out that most of this web work is cake and the only thing left to make money is web applications. Networking or Software Development. Which has worldwide career prospects? I’ve got a BE degree in Electronics with around 10 years’ experience as a free-lance computer consultant for charitable organizations. I have adequate knowledge in hardware as well as programming (VB, ASP, C) but have not worked in the IT sector as an employee. I now wish to take up a career that would take me to different parts of the world. Which route should I take? A MCSE/CISCO certification to get into networking or a .Net certification to get into the software industry. Which has wider career prospects, especially in the US and Europe? Thanks for your valuable suggestions and your time.
Which graduate program or degree will allow me to use my analytical skills as a business consultant? I already have a BA and a B.Ed, but I think I might like to pursue a career as a business consultant. I like to analyze situations and systems and then figure out how they could be made better and more effective. Others have suggested the areas of business development, strategy, and organization behaviour, all of which seem very interesting to me. What would be the next best step for me to acquire greater knowledge and skills in these areas?
How do I begin working with the philanthropy program of a corporation? I am a rising senior in college and I am interested in working with a corporation's philanthropy or community development sector. Most corporations have foundations to support their community interests/giving but they don't provide information about how to become employed with these foundations. No information is listed in their career/jobs section either (most results are the popular finance/engineering jobs). Furthermore, philanthropy/non-profit job search websites don't return results for major companies. Can someone tell me how I can get my foot in the door for this industry?

Educational grants for career training? Hi, This is probably a lost cause but I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me. In the fall I would like to take this language course to become certified to teach EFL. I wanted to teach English overseas, so I did some research and the first step is to get certified. I looked into some programs and found out that the two premier programs are the Cambridge CELTA and the Trinity TESOL certificate... Trinity college in London runs the place, and they accepted me... the problem is money. The school isn't able to offer financial aid, and "regular" student loans and scholarships don't apply. I work full time (I'm a teacher now) but school is out for the summer and I am at the end of my rope. I want to do this so badly, but I need the money and I have exhausted all my ideas for finding it. I am looking into getting a part-time job as well. What I would like to know is, are there any grants out there that would apply to my situation? 1 day ago - 2 days left to answer. Additional Details 1 day ago What I meant to say is, I would like to know if there any grants that I might be eligible for? Are there are any grants that would apply to my situation? The program is abroad, and I'll be leaving in November... I did some research and there is such a thing as a career development loan, but you have to be a UK citizen because the British consul offers it... I'm not sure if the US government offers such a thing. If you can help me THANK YOU!!! :D Antonio! Go practice!! Ay que testarudo!!
Schools with good early childhood development programs?!? I live in West Virginia, and would like to go somewhere nearby(Ohio or Pennsylvania), or maybe in state. I'd like to have a career at a preschool working with children from birth to about age 6. I have a 4.1 and straight A's with a part time job (Fenton Art Glass!) and leadership roles in my extracurriculars, so getting in isn't much of a problem at most schools. I've gotten accepted so far into Washington and Jefferson and WVU although i really don't want to go to WVU Soooo, any good child development programs in ohio or pennsylvania schools?
Career dilemma - What should I be after graduated? Currently I'm taking a degree in Computer Science, majoring in Systems and Networking. This is my second last semester and I still don't have any plan of what I'm going to be after graduated. Since my majoring is not so specific so there are a lot of variety of jobs that I can apply. IT line, that is. I can apply to be a software engineer since I did learn quite a number of programming languages, software design and development etc., I can also go for QA since I have obtained the basic requirements for the position. Fyi, I even had my practical as a QA trainee. Then, there's the networking line. Basically I'm not a fussy person so anything it's ok for me. My principle is to get a job that is high in demand and try to do the best in the job. So, could you help me out? Which is the best IT job that you think is the best and why I should apply for it? Thank you.
Does anyone have connections in real estate construction or development? I graduated this past May with a bachelor degree in resource economics , and I would like to get a job with a real estate development or construction company. Some type of training program possibly in the area of project management would be great. I have no experience, but I learn very quickly and have great work ethic. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get my career started and who to talk to? I would love to get my masters in the field, but this requires a few years of experience first. I would prefer to work in the New York area.

Is this a field for which I really need to go back to college? And finally, what kind of entry level job titles are associated with this industry? Thank you for your help.

Does anyone have any knowledge of clinical development jobs? I am a medicinal chemist with about 5 years experience. I took a certificate program through UC Berkeley "Clinical Research Conduct and Management" I'm thinking about jumping careers and getting into this area. Will my science and drug discovery background give me a leg up in this industry, or will it not count for much? How much can I expect to make starting out? Would I have to start out monitoring trials, if so how long till I can get into management, helping to write protocols etc. And finally, if you are in this field, do you like it?
Does anyone work for Prudential Financial? I recently posted my resume on careerbuilder.com and was contacted by them to come in for a profile test to see if i qualify for their development program. I'm in the middle of changing careers and was wondering if it's a good opportunity or a scam. Thanks!
A good career choice in the uk? Im thinking of doing a game development course this year. Last year I did computer programming but I didnt seem to do to well. I like the salary of the jobs in the I.T market these days but I never did computers at secondary school but im fairly good now at most thing (apart from programming which I dont think is my fault due to the quailty of teaching at my tech) I was always good at English and History also Im very interested in psychology but theres tons of people that have degrees in those subjects that cant get work. Can anyone help me pick a course to do next year? By the way im 17 coming 18 very soon I feel like I have the mind of a writter and every career test I did in school always ended up having a writer as the top choice but thats not a very reliable career.
Is it possible for someone with no previous Software Development/Administration experience to learn SAP Basis? Thanks to all the people who answered my previous question. I need your help, people. I am an IT Sales/Marketing person who is currently out of a job. I have been interested in SAP Technologies for quite some time now. I am not confident about learn ABAP programming but have been advised not to go for SAP SD, as i have no traditional sector sales experience(like selling in Automotive, Manufacturing, Healthcare, etc sectors). I want to know if its possible for someone like me to self-learn SAP Basis online, as courses in my part of the world are very, very expensive. Also, my reason for opting for SAP is because 1)I truly find ERP packages interesting, 2)The market for SAP Tech professionals is very good where i live 3)I want to have a career closely related to technology. Please help me out, friends. Your advice can help me sort out doubts i have about shifting my career path.
Is Computer Programming / Business Application Developer a good career? Is Computer Programming / Business Application Developer a good career? Is a career in computer programming, software development, a good career now and in the future? Any input will be appreciated. How much can I expect to make? Will there always be a job for programmers? I've heard of offshoring but I think programmers will always be needed. Please advise. Thanks.
Advice on making Web Design a career...? Hi, all.. I'm really interested in making web design/web development a career.. I have experience with XHTML, CSS, PHP and with programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver.. But, all of it is self-taught. I've designed quite a few sites too.. But as far as a resume goes, I have no formal training or internships... I really want to move this hobby to a career and I was looking into getting a AS in Communication design. Most colleges I've found (in the New York City area) offer web design as maybe one or two elective classes (which is entirely ridiculous). Now for my questions: I've heard that NYC is a great place for designers. How can I break into this field? Also, what should I do as far as training? I'm not sure how to get the proof I need to show I know what I know as well. And should I pursue a degree in communication design or computer science? Or both? And I'm completely clueless as far as getting an internship... =(
I need help find good colleges with great programs for the Teaching field or Child development? Ok, so I’m a sophomore (soon to be Junior) and i attend a college prep high school. I’ve always wanted to have a career involving child development or even teaching 1st and 2nd graders. I want to start applying to colleges this summer, but I haven't found one that has really made me excited or really struck me as a place I would want to go. I live in Texas, and would like to find a school near by, but as of right now, any good college would suffice. If you could please give me any ideas of colleges you went to, or are attending ,maybe some you know of that would help educate me in those fields I would be extremely thankful! Ps. Maybe a College that won't have me up to my chin with student loans.

Building an IT Career in Canada? Hi.. I am currently living in the Philippines.. and in about a month, my family will be immigrating to Toronto, Canada. I have just graduated from college and am planning to start right away to look for a job there. I am just wondering, what would be the right steps in finding/starting a job? I have no idea what are the demands in Toronto.. My plan is to push through with my IT career.. (what i mean with the words "push through" is that my relatives in Canada said I have to start small.. don't expect too much because I got my education in the philippines and employers in Canada would hire someone who has taken up his education in Canada. For ex. My cousin's husband is also thinking of having an IT career. He is currently a working student right now. And his job right now has nothing to do with IT).. If possible, I would really like to start finding a job and get hired right away.. So, again, my question would be, what are the necessary things I need to do? What are the necessary accreditations i need to take (in Canada) so I don't have to waste time going back to school just to prove i am worth hiring? And lastly, if i was to focus more on software development, what are the programming languages currently in demand in Toronto? what about in web development? As for school project experience, I would say I am very confident with my skills in querying a database. Unfortunately, I kept on jumping from one programming/scripting language to another thus I never got a chance to really focus on one language. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks! ok... what I'm definitely going back to school.. Could you give me suggestions (if I wanted to pursue in software development) as to what languages should I really focus on? And what are good (and affordable) IT schools in Canada?

Asking experienced web developers for career advice...? I'm at a turning point in my life where i have defined myself as a struggling entrepreneur. i am very facinated with the internet/web 2.0/e-biz and am considering becoming a web developer. reason is i have great web based ideas that i want to give life to but i'm relatively new to this industry. my background is in business and am pursuing my mba. but i am considering stopping my mba to go to devry or someplace that offers instructional programs on web development in a classroom environment. (what do you think about devry's program). i am considered taking a webmaster or web database developer online course through "gatlin educational courses" because this would be faster but i am hesitant w/ online teaching (any experiences w/ gatlin or similar courses?) questions: 1) i basically want to learn the trade as fast and efficient as possible, i don't have many years to dedicate, what should i do or where should i go? 2) any thoughts on devry or ITT or Gatlin? 3) earning potential?
Non-Technical Career for Computer Science graduate? Career Prospects: MS in Computer Science? Hi! [Asked this before, re-asking to get more opinions] I have a MS in Computer Science and 1-year programming experience (done that before starting the MS) Now I don't want to work with software analysis and development nor with Research and Development. Could anyone give me any career prospects? - Couldn't I be, for example, an HR in a software company? - Teaching is good, but could I do that without experience, I haven't been a T.A. while studying for the MS? - Any big companies require technical skills (MS) for selling their software? sales career? Does anyone feel the same, noticing that you don't like your field a bit late, i.e. after graduating? Any serious advice is MUCH appreciated. Thanks in advance

I really appreciate the time you took to answer and help. Even though I started programming since I was 13 (on QBasic) and was talented at uni in all tech courses, now I feel I want to run away from this! Your IT suggestion seems plausible but I don't have any IT (Networking, System Administration, etc.) experience, as most of knowledge is theoritical... so I'll have to be lucky to find a company that trains me. Anything you might add will also be appreciated! :-) Best wishes in your career. Thanks again

St. Johns University / Actuarial Science Program/Other NYC univ? I am currently a UCLA student and will be obtaining my BA in INternational development from UCLA, however, this degree is not realy career oriented and i want to go into Actuary work. For various reasons i can not stay at UCLA to take the required courses and will be moving to New yOrk. I am looking at a new york school with an undergraduate Acturial Science program that will prepare me for the first 4 exams. THe only school i am finding that does this is St.Johns, however all the infromation i am finding about this school doesnt present it as a good school in the overall rankings. Considering that in NYC area there are only St.Johns, Queens, and Baruch that offer Acturial science BA degrees, will St.Johns be looked at in a better light , or is choosing Baruch a better bet? I know what matters is exam passage, and since i alreayd have a prestigous school on my resume, my secondary schol is not that imprtant, however i would still like to go to the best possible school.

Is it better to just do ANYTHING instead of waiting? Career question....? I graduated at 18.Took a year off(Didn't do much just work), then went to college for a year until I decided the career I was pursuing wasn't really what I though it was(International development, though I could actually help people, not just be a secretary or fundraiser). Now I'm considering something medical(so I could physically help people) like a Paramedic, Nurse,or doctor. If I continue college I could switch my major and take courses required for med school,or be able to go into a 2 year after degree program in nursing after I get my undergraduate degree(need to udgrade by 2% if I want to go directly into the nursing program),If i decide i want to work more intimately with people instead of med school. Also I can't get directly into a paramedic program for atleast 1.5yrs because of liscences I need to get first. So is it better to just persue something and see how it goes,or wait fo the perfect career and persue it?BTW I hated taking a yr off, felt like I was wasting my life. So basically should I just go back to college and do those course that leave my options open or should I take some years off school? I'm afraid to do that becuase ppl I know who have done that are 25 with no plans and still not sure what they want. But I also don't want to just go to college without planning(med school, nursing, paramedic), becuase I have friends with B.A degrees that are secretaries starting at the same wage as none B.A's. Also as I get older I'm more likey(hhehe *Hope*) to get married and have kids so going back to school will be harder...damn I'm ranting!!! Also I have super high college marks, but in high school I didn't really care, hence why I would need to upgrade to go into the nursing program directly. BTW it would both take the same amount of time(upgrading then going, or after just degree program). So is it better to run half blind or sit around waiting for inspiration? My dream travel and help people (all 3 have that) -overseas volunteering, and helping ppl-

My final career path does not include teaching but perhaps working in government or private organizations. Also would anyone suggest starting a Masters program in either of the two options and than transferring to a PhD program?

Looking for advice to help me choose the right PhD program...? I have a BA in international relations, a EdM in international education development, and have been teaching ESL for 5 + years. I am looking for a PhD that marries linguistics, English language acquisition, and immigration related policy. Career-wise, I'd like to do reasearch and teach. Many people have steered me towards education, but I don't want to teach education. I'd rather teach something more akin to International studies or TESOL. I have found a great linguistics program in London. I am a US citizen and will probably teach mostly in the US, so I am not sure a PhD from the UK would be the best choice. Also, it looks like for a UK PhD, one goes right into research, and while on one hand I don't want to take two years of classes, I think that I would benefit from taking some more, especially in research. What do you recommend? Do you know of good applied or sociolinguistics programs in the US? Thank you.
From development to system administration? I am a communication sw engineer considering a career switch from software development to system administration and I wonder if anyone has experience with a similar change. For the last 5 years I have been working with dsp programming for telecommunications, and worked on various projects involving both design and implementation of embedded ip-network products, but my focus has been on low-level programming and optimization, mostly in the C language. Currently I find the programming itself a bit tedious, and I could like to have work tasks where I can have a more systems overview without going into project management. Looking back to school days I remember that I enjoyed system administration, but I feel that my skills are a bit rusty. Having saved some money I consider taking time off to do courses on professional institutes leading to certifications. Do you think this is a better idea than trying to get admin tasks with my current employer for which I might be mis/underqualified? Klayq: Well, I can not be sure of that of course, but the job market is good (Even though I have not updated my resume or applied for jobs I got a new job offer through a scandinavian recruiting site), and if I present myself and my achievements well, maybe 1-2 months for a relevant job? It is a good question and I do not know too much about my current job market status, so it is worth checking out by working with a recruiting site for instance.
How to get out of Web Design/Development? Hello, I am in need of some advice on how to change jobs/careers out of web site design and development. I have had various temp contract jobs over the past 2 yrs and I am tired of the job security. It seems to me that in 2007, with all this cheesy myspace, youtube, and user generated content, web design is a very broad term, and amateur designers with no background are using the web for crap, and on the other side their is too much software, languages to learn, and each back-end web project is various, to focus on 1 thing, just redudant content management and uploading through an interface. And alot of jobs now are 20hrs.prt time, web designer/SEO, or 20 freelance asp.net programming on some stupid intranet, not even worth being a full-time employee. In everyones opinion, is this type of work worth a day job, or just part, contract, remotely from home? Also, how can you transfer into another type of work , when all your skills are web-related? Need serious professional advice.
MBA plus a Masters in Economics? I am 24 and working full time as a financial analyst. I have been looking into getting both a master's in econ and an MBA. I figure I could get a master's in econ in the next 2 1/2 years, while working full time, and then begin my MBA, possibly management or finance. The master’s would come from a very reputable private college and then I would have to make the decision to either go full time for the MBA, and look into out of state institutions, or go part time to my state university.. Does this make sense? I would complete both degrees by the time I was 31. Along with that my career path would allow me to potentially enter and complete a 3 year Financial Development Program shortly after completing the master’s. Any advice on whether the two degrees would make a difference compared to just getting one would help. I see my career continuing in finance, either in investments, corporate finance, or business development (i.e. Corp M&A)
