What do you think of this career move? I've been working at a business research think-tank for several years and have been desperate to transition into a private sector position. Ideally, I'd like to be in strategy consulting or an in-house strategy/planning or corporate affairs/policy role. Unfortunately, the only offer I'm expecting in the near future is as an R&D manager with an organization development consultancy. This is a boutique firm and most of their engagements are with one major corporate client. The salary is appealing, the position seems challenging and the people at the firm are great. Unfortunately, I don't see myself in an HR consulting field for the rest of my career. Is it worth pursuing this as a transitional step for the connections and private sector experience, or am I going to end up pigeon-holed in this field?

Finally, is urban planning a dead end job or can you get a bigger and more high paying job the harder you work?

Project management or business development? I hold a Ph.D. in Cancer Medicine and worked for 3 years as a R&D scientist screening novel anti-cancer drugs. I pursued my MBA and finished my degree less than one year ago. Since completing my MBA, I took up a position at a large pharmaceutical service provider identifying risks in study protocols (for clients) through global investigator surveys and help pepare material for proposals and bid defense meeting (for internal use). I like my position but would like to use my MBA skills more and am planning to look for other positions in 6-9 months time. Is that correct? Also, what is the career path of a project manager in the pharma sector? I would be interested in your views! Thank you!

Career dilemma - What should I be after graduated? Currently I'm taking a degree in Computer Science, majoring in Systems and Networking. This is my second last semester and I still don't have any plan of what I'm going to be after graduated. Since my majoring is not so specific so there are a lot of variety of jobs that I can apply. IT line, that is. I can apply to be a software engineer since I did learn quite a number of programming languages, software design and development etc., I can also go for QA since I have obtained the basic requirements for the position. Fyi, I even had my practical as a QA trainee. Then, there's the networking line. Basically I'm not a fussy person so anything it's ok for me. My principle is to get a job that is high in demand and try to do the best in the job. So, could you help me out? Which is the best IT job that you think is the best and why I should apply for it? Thank you.

From start to finish, what is the best way to get a website up and running? How can I ensure it will be seen? I am wanting to get a website up and running. I am not sure where to begin. I can easily buy a domain name, but from there, I'm not sure what to do. I have very good computer skills, but no development experience. It is also important that this site be easily findable, and not buried 50 pages back when it comes to searches. I am wanting to use this site for the purposes of drawing together, like minded individuals who are focused, or care to focus on classroom education. In addition, I hope to reach anyone who may be interested in learning more about what I plan to do career-wise in Education, and are interested in helping me towards my goals. Quite honestly, I am seeking help. I struggle with meeting daily expenses with two young adult children, and a home. I simply have to create more, and I believe the internet may be the vehicle that is needed. I am also looking to create an online business within this site. I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you!

Career Advice As Far As Real Estate Developer/Real Estate Attorney/City Planner? I am really confused about what I should major in at college. I love cities, real estate and people and want to major in either finance (real estate emphasis), urban planning, urban studies or sociology. I would like to be a real estate developer, real estate attorney, city planner or, just a highly successful individual in real estate. I believe that the finance major is a must because I will be dealing with large amounts of money no matter what. However, what other major should a choose to get a good background about people and cities. If I work for a city I would like to focus on housing, zoning and development. Moreover, if I get my J.D. I would also like to have knowledge in areas other than urbanization and money. I can not get an undergrad in four majors because that is way to much time and money. I really need advice. Currently, my career goal is leaning more towards Real Estate Attorney/City Planner. What should I do? Your Advice would be greatly appricated. High School Senior
Which business would be best for me to start? I'm a senior in high school and would like to start my own business this summer. I plan on going into real estate development and was trying to think of a business I could start now that would lead me along a career path to real estate development, if not a business that I could start easily and operate while balancing school. Please don't tell me about having to have a passion and idea of your own to be succesful because I know all of this, I'm a marketing and business student. I just have trouble of developing an idea, once I have it I can easily run with it. I used to own an eBay store where I used a dropshipper for electronics. I didn't like it too much.

Building an IT Career in Canada? Hi.. I am currently living in the Philippines.. and in about a month, my family will be immigrating to Toronto, Canada. I have just graduated from college and am planning to start right away to look for a job there. I am just wondering, what would be the right steps in finding/starting a job? I have no idea what are the demands in Toronto.. My plan is to push through with my IT career.. (what i mean with the words "push through" is that my relatives in Canada said I have to start small.. don't expect too much because I got my education in the philippines and employers in Canada would hire someone who has taken up his education in Canada. For ex. My cousin's husband is also thinking of having an IT career. He is currently a working student right now. And his job right now has nothing to do with IT).. If possible, I would really like to start finding a job and get hired right away.. So, again, my question would be, what are the necessary things I need to do? What are the necessary accreditations i need to take (in Canada) so I don't have to waste time going back to school just to prove i am worth hiring? And lastly, if i was to focus more on software development, what are the programming languages currently in demand in Toronto? what about in web development? As for school project experience, I would say I am very confident with my skills in querying a database. Unfortunately, I kept on jumping from one programming/scripting language to another thus I never got a chance to really focus on one language. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks! ok... what I'm definitely going back to school.. Could you give me suggestions (if I wanted to pursue in software development) as to what languages should I really focus on? And what are good (and affordable) IT schools in Canada?

Who do you file a complaint to against a university? What I am specifically asking. is who statewide ---Texas or nationally can you complain to. This year in career development, I wanted to ask the instructor on advice of negotiating salary increases at an interview or performance review. After being stood up twice by the instructor, I decided to find what I could the night before in the book. The only help that I got from the book was a line telling me that I should negotiate Direct Deposit. In this day in age an employer almost looks down on you if you dont have DD. This is one example of many I am faced with at the University of North Texas. I have bought a domian called untcomplaintdepartment.com which I plan to use as a message board for other students to post complaints but I need a roadmap to go further past the dean as my meeting with her just promptly ended with a quick "im sorry you feel that way" How can you file a complaint that affects accredidation status? Is there any statewide govt bodies in texas for this?

Career Change Question? I've been a manager in the IT industry for over 20 years. My real development experience was therefore quite a while ago. I've enjoyed my time in management, but would like to move back to my "first love", development (changing companies at the same time). I've taken Visual Basic and some C courses in the past, am taking Java now - plan on a couple more courses. I enjoy any development - but my review of where the market is today tells me Java looks to have the most open positions right now. Anyone able to confirm that? I know comparing Java vs the rest of the world, notably MS, is probably a loaded question. Any suggestions for moving ahead in Java? Thanks!

From Engineer to Financial Analyst? I have six years of experience as an engineer. (BS in engineering) As I wanted to change my career from engineer to financial guy, I obtained an MBA degree, finance as concentration. My first job after MBA was not in the financial industry, but a little close. I have worked as an administrator at a research institution. My responsibilities include R&D budget planning, R&D accounting, profit estimation, project controller, R&D strategy establishing, process improvement (Six Sigma), Business plan development, project evaluation, etc. Because of my personal reasons, I am going to move to the US from Japan and look for a job. I wonder what kind of job positions can be aligned with my background. Because I have experience in accounting, a MBA degree in finance, am quite good at numbers and excel spreadsheet, and have analytical skills, I am targeting the financial analyst position. Any advice?

career shift? Hi, I am sofware consultant and of late I have been reading a lot on the developments in Bioinformatics. I believe that quantitative biology is the future science of 21st centuary. I started applying for a masters program but I find it tough to get into a "good" university with my current credentials. I don't want to do just-another-masters program, because I know what it is like to do "just anything". I sort of want some advise from people who are already in this field to advise on whether the buzz around the modern biology is in deed real and the industry is going to experiance better growth than what IT currently has. Is it a good thing to make a carrer shift that I am planning to make (with a good paying job already in handm but one which I don't enjoy) ?
