Career Counseling? I would some assistance on what career/job I should go into. I went to two years of college, but am still undecided on my major. Has anyone sought a career counselor before? Does it help or are there any other ways to help me decide what career to go into?
Job search help!! What should I look for when looking for financial counseling jobs? I am currently trying to job hunt and am interested in a financial counseling position with a non-profit compant. I DO NOT want to work for a credit card company...only non-profits! I am having a horrible time finding any jobs that are anything close to what I want to do. I am using Monster and Yahoo Hotjobs and can't find a thing. Anyone have any search tips for this career or any other sites that could help me? Thanks!! And btw, I will be an AFC (an Accredited Financial Counselor) soon so I have more than the needed experience and credentials.
Jobs in career counselling? I'm really interested in developing a career in career counselling but I'm not sure how to go about it! I wondered if anyone has any suggestions on what I need to do? I have a BSc in Psychology and have two years experience in the recruitment industry. I want to combine the two and get into career counselling but I'm just not sure how! Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
How can I find career counseling/advice??? I am in the process of my first real job search since graduating college, and it's a nightmare. I don't even know where to start and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. Is there some kind of service that offers career counseling and assistance with trying to find a job? I have a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies and also was a Peace Corps volunteer for two years. Still, everytime I try to find a job I feel like I'm just not qualified for anything. Does anyone have advice on what my next step should be?
What are some good resources for career counseling? I need some help! I need to find a new career. I am highly educated and a hard worker, but I have come to the realization that the career pathway I am on now will not lead me to the life goals I have. I am very lost at how to go about this. I would like to find someone who could sit down with me, look at my education/resume, and help give me some ideas about what kind of careers are even out there. I don't mind pursuing other classes/training that will help make me more marketable, but I don't necessarily want another degree right now. The thing is, I feel like I don't know anything about what kind of jobs exist and what kinds of background you need to do these jobs, let alone how to break into a new industry. I can write a top-notch resume/cover letter and can fend for myself in an interview, I don't need help on that side. I need help on the side of matching my skills to what jobs exist and knowing which jobs would provide an adequate salary range. Also, what might these services cost? I have spent these last five years pursuing the idealism of my college days and am realizing that it just doesn't pay the bills. I don't have a lot of extra money for this kind of thing, but I am willing to pay what I do have for some good results.
Career counseling - Has anybody benefitted from professional career counseling? I am working in the IT field and have a wide range of skills - from developing systems to working on strategy for IT at the CxO level. I am still not able to land the right job/opportunity that I know I am capable of handling. I also work very hard and give any job 110% attention. I tried starting a company but am unable to gain any momentum with the software product I have developed, even though everyone I have talked to thinks that the idea is a great one. Do you think career counseling will help? any other ideas?
How do I know if a career in Counseling Psychology is for me? The idea really interests me. This is what I want: I want a low profile (no-management) high paying job or mid paying job in which I will be able to help others. I have a bachelors degree and I want to make a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology. But is it really for me?
Curious about Counseling Career? What's it like to be a counselor and what are the pros and cons of the job? Which major would help out more so Psychology or Social Work? I'm considering possiblities and I really like sociology and psychology however I'm not real thrilled about having to go to graduate school. Is there any jobs close to counseling that have a bachelor's degree? Are jobs plentiful? Thanks!
What does long term future career/job goals mean? My quiz gave me these options. Finish High School College or University Get Training Get a Job Get Counselling Get Promoted Change jobs Do Volunteer Work What does this have to do with a career or a job????
Career in guidance counseling? I was wondering what a job in guidance counseling is like (both in the elementary and high school levels)? Is it a lot less stressful than a teaching job, or does it depend?

Which is the better career: becoming a school counseler or a school psychologist? I'm interested in pursuing a career in counseling in grade school or secondary school, but am not sure whether I should be looking at a school psychology program or a school counseling program. I'm hoping that I can find a job in which I'm able to spend a reasonable amount of time working with kids on issues, problem solving, creating action plans, etc. and not solely focusing on testing. Any insight from those who have jobs in this field (or who are in graduate school in this area) would be appreciated. Also, details about what a "day in the life" looks like would be really helpful, too.
How to respond to a career crisis? I am finding great difficulty applying for a new job. I already hold a Bachelor in Arts and a MSc, and have 5 years work experience behind me, and find interviews hard to come by. Should I change my career direction completely, gett some additional qualifications. I work in Admin at the moment and a career in Counselling and HR appeals to me but that would involve a lot of cost. What is the best option out of this predicament?
Where can I find effective career counseling and therapy? I am the only young male in my household. My father is there but he's on a whole different mentality. I am 23 years old. I live with my mother, father, sister, and nephew. I get the urge to finally move out but money is short. I miserably work as a floating patient service rep in a clinic. I am working part time because of frequent complaints I got on my job, which has lowered my self-confidence and self-esteem. I could continue full time, but I would only be putting myself more into a job I don't even enjoy or that I am not really good at. Basically, at least I am aware that I am not much a people person or the type that is blessed to effectively deal with people, which the medical field involves. I already have a degree in English, but I dread teaching. I like to write but lost some confidence in that as well. Sometimes I feel that I can't be understood. I think here are certain things that only guys could understand amongst each other. My older brother lives in Florida.
What are the best jobs for people who has extraordinary people skills? I have a friend who is exceptionally good at getting people open to her. I have witnessed this multiple times and it is very strange. Random people that she meets on street, ladies rooms or gym share their secrets with her within 30 minutes of talking to her. She is getting drained by her job and needs a new one. What kind of jobs would be good for her? I thought counseling and psychology. What else? She has a marketing career and not very happy with it.
what is the difference between counseling and clinical psychology? i am considering becomeing a counseling psychologist but i havent heard much about them (i have really only heard about the clinical psychologists) and i dont what they do, how much they earn, and the job potential in terms of where you can go and what you can do if you have a Ph.d. in counseling psychology and are licensed as a counseling psychologist. could you please help me out by providing some info on becoming a counseling psychologist and the careers and salaries you can get with a Ph.d. in counseling psychology?

I am interested in mabye counseling of some type, or mabye a social worker. Im just wondering your opinions on what the best career out there is, and doesnt matter if it takes couple years of schooling, or a degree.
What can you do with a M.S. in School Counseling? Does anybody have any suggestions as to what you can do with a degree in school counseling besides being a school counselor?(It is just to hard to find a job...and I need cash!) Perhaps suggestions as to other careers to branch into would be just as helpful. Thanks!
Which field should I specialise in after LL.B? Career counselling required.? I finished my LL.B with first class in 2004. I have been unable to practice as I had my baby soon after that. My husband has a transferrable job. I will have to move with him when he gets a transfer. I want to start working but I am totally confused. I was told that there are certain PG. Diplomas in India that can be done after law. Can you suggest some field that will be suitable for a person like me? What are the different options?
Where exactly is free online live counseling 24/7? A previous question directed to www.healingwell.com but this does not actually have professionals. Where can a someone get help for their career, job, college, etc., for free online? I see services that talk about phone calls, but with the surveillance, people want confidential free help. This is important.
why does the government dish out money to those on welfare? I know here in canada, so many people are on welfare (and i mean single, 20 and 30 somethings) yet they are not being told to get a job at all. It is way too easy to get on welfare here. I was wondering what it is like everywhere else. One girl I know was 22 and had her own apt, and welfare paid EVERYTHING for her, even covered her beers on friday nite. I think this is totally wrong and that the govt should make these people get career counselling or go to work. Not fair that tax payers have to pay for others to live free. Any opinions? (and no, I am not talking about those who need to be on welfare, like a 16 year old mother, or an 80 year old woman or a disabled person)
How to succeed in finding a job when you have never been Outgoing? ANd you don't have the speaking skills that other people your age have built up since they were kids. For example me, i suck at speaking. I try to speak but nothing comes out correctly.. i stutter, i get red, and the few times i've gotten interviews i fail miserably. I've failed for 1 year at job searching, what can i do? My city has no Career counseling center. ALl they have is a Work resource center for using cmputers to find jobs.. that doesn't help me much
Career Websites? I am looking for a new career in the education/counseling field. Does anybody know of any good job websites that are geared toward this field? Also, any other general yet reputable career websites would be great too. Thanks!
How do I cover for missing years of employment on my CV? I need Information on CVs. I am looking to go back into the job market at 37, and am feeling like a grounded ship. I am a bit concerned as the workplace seems to have changed within the last 3 years. Any info would be of use. I have taking my A+ certificate, and passed the hardware part. But am looking at a career in counselling. I am confused. I suffer depression and agorophobia, but am battling it
How would you look for career fulfillment? Have you become bored with your current job or career and wish you could do something else that's a bit more fulfilling, but you don't know what else would give you satisfaction? If so: 1. What has been preventing you from doing something about your job or career situation? (economics, fear, don't know where to start, etc.) 2. What type of tool or strategy would help you identify your career options? Would you look to a product (book, CD, etc.), or would you prefer a service (coaching, counselling, etc.) to help you? 3. If so, what specifically would you want or expect from that product or service? (motivation, exercises, stories, etc.) 4. Would you prefer a product or service from someone who has lived through the pain of an unsatisfying career and has now found fulfillment, or would you rather hear from a qualified practitioner? 5. And what type of approach would you want (spiritual, practical, or a bit of both)?
I want a job counseling people? My career counselor doesn't know what filed I should enter. I know that, at minimum, I will need to get a Masters. But in what???? But first I must start with a undergrad program. Should I enter Psychology or Social Work? But I am confused because everyone keeps telling me that getting degree in Psychology is worthless. I have even heard people tell me that a master's degree in Psychology is worthless. What do you think?
What changes should I make to my site to encourage visitors to return? I have a small totally free web site (http://jobsearchlog.com) designed to help users organize their job search. it isn't a job search engine but more a way to keep track of the jobs they've applied for, and send custom cover and cold call letters through email or print. I am getting quite a bit of visits and registrations because of links from some state Unemployment sites and other career counseling organizations in the US and Canada but I don't get enough people taking full advantage of what the site offers. What is it missing? Not designed well. Not something anyone would need to use? Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. Once again the site is http://jobsearchlog.com Thanks, Michael
Is it crazy to have too many career interests and goals? After high school, I decided to get my first college degree in Education and have been a teacher for 12 years. I also have my masters in Counseling, but never did pursue jobs in with this because I never did get the certification or my liscense. Now, 5 years later, I'm working on a second Bachelor's degree in Information Techonology because I like computers and was ready to get out of the classroom. I've also had the desire to get into real estate, medical field, and own a business one day. Does this sound crazy to you?
Pursuing a career in the helping professions...Counseling, social work? I'll be graduating in December with a B.A. in Human Development and Family studies. I know what interests me but am unsure of what graduate degree to pursue. I want to work with younger children that have special needs. Mostly interested in social/emotional or developmental delays, with a focus on mental health. I'd ideally prefer a job related to the school setting, but as a therapist or someone who provides children with emotional support so they can meet their goals. I prefer small groups or one to one interaction. I've considered Special Education, School Social Work, and Elementary School Counselor. They each seem to have their benefits and set backs...I'm not sure what would best meet my interests. Any advice?

Have you ever made a HUGE career change? I have a teaching degree, and I have been teaching for 4 years. My whole life I wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to teach throughout my undergraduate career. However, during the last two years, I have been very discouraged with it. The morale at my school is down among teachers, a lot of pressure is being put on teachers. I can barely pay my bills and I have to work a part time job just to make ends meet. I am currently working on my master's degree, but I won't be finished for almost a year. I could get a different job after that, but I don't know if I want to teach next year. Another catch is that I will have tenure if I teach next year. So what do I do? Do I stick it out, miserable for one more year and get tenure, or do I find something else to do for a year and then get back into the schools with a different job after I have my master's. (My master's is in school counseling, so I will be going back to the school system.) Have any of you ever changed careers?
Need career direction... HELP!!!? I need a career direction... I have been doing things that come my way... I am not happy with what I am doing... I have tried Events, Admin jobs and teaching. Teaching to an extent felt good... but there was no growth... I was a teacher for ever... there was nothing new about everyday... hardly any challenges... Can anyone suggest how I can go about finding the right path for me? or even ideas on what I could think about doing... in the business line or a new type of career! Dont suggest career counseling & etc... I have tried a few they don't work for me! PS: I am in Sydney now... earlier I was in India... I am working on an admin role now... which is the most monotonous job I have ever done!
Which career path would be right for me? I can't decide....I go to college in a few months, but I have no clue what my major is. Is this normal? My skills are mainly artistic; I have a great leaning capability for literature/writing, drawing, cooking, etc. I would be good at a job that involve thi\ese, and likely would enjoy them. But what of the pay rate? I am also interested in psychology, counseling of young people, and animal care. I was considering medical, but I struggle so much with math that this may not be for me. I would like something that pays well, but also something I'd enjoy everyday, or atleast bare without much of a challenge. Any ideas? Thanks!

I dont know what I want to do as a career! Teach/counselling...? I've been to uni, got a degree and wondering what i want to do! Im people orientated and i think that all through my life i've always been on a theraputic/self-development path. Im currently applying to do a teaching course and though it's something i'll enjoy, I still dont think it's 100% what I want to do. I've just taken a counselling taster course which I really enjoyed, but to train to be a counsellor it's going to take another 4 years as it's part time and there's no garentee to get a well paid job at the end. Money will also be an issue whilst studying... Can i teach and train to be a counsellor at the same time? I think my ideal goal is to open up a self-development centre... I just dont really know what to do!! Any advise??
Career Help? Ok I have been to a career counselor before but that didn't help. Can anyone list jobs where you work one on one with people? My first thought was counseling, but Psychology is something I can't major in, I just don't understand it. Please list as many careers that involve working one on one with someone. If I did major in psychology I would go to graduate school.
What would you think of someone who wanted to be a counsellor that was ....? So sensitive they reported this Question: Does anyone know of any psychology and counselling careers that train you on the job? My main degree is not in psychology or anything but drama. I cant be bothered to study full time Question Details: What makes you think you should be allowed to practice on peoples heads and lives just because you have a basic level of intelligence demonstrated by a drama degree. Learn on the job?? Why dont you try "open heart surgery for dummies" while your'e at it Do it right, get the qualifications and then the experience or forget it. If you can't be bothered to study for it you dont have what it takes and should stick to yahoo answers Sorry princess :-( Would you think that the person was a precious little dancing princess who should not be within a mile of a vulnerable person because her own issues would get in the way ?
Psychology career? I am considering a career in Psychology. I would like information from current/former psychologists as to the pros/cons of the career, wages I can expect to make (in clinical psychology or counseling), degree requirements, and any other information you may find necessary or beneficial for me to know (ex. outlook for the profession, places I can expect to find jobs, etc). thanks
MSW or MS in Counseling Psychology or MS in Educational Counseling? I am interested in making a career change. (I work in Corporate America.) I have a BA in Psychology and I am considering going to Graduate School. I can't decide what degree to go for. I am considering 1. Masters in Social Work 2. Masters in Counseling Psychology (and later applying to be a LPC) and 3. Masters in Educational Counseling (to become a School Counselor). What is the benefit of getting an MSW over a MS in Counseling Psych or visa versa? (Which one would pay more? Which one would led to more rewarding work or better jobs or more job opportunities?) Also, is anyone here a School Counselor - do you like your choosen profession?, can you tell me what a typical day is like?, and what is the average salary?) Thank you very much in advance.

Career Assessment Test Help!!? I just took a career assessment test from an austrailian website and I found it to be extremely helpful because it help to confirm my areas of interests. According to the test the jobs that I may enjoy the most are those that involve helping and people. Some of the occupations that appealed to me the most were welfare community service worker, child care worker, and kindergarten and preschool teachers. When I analyzed the tasks under each of these occupations I found that I would enjoy doing just about all of the tasks under child care worker and kindergarten and preschool teacher. I also found that I would enjoy doing all of the tasks under welfare and community service worker except for the tasks which involved having to provide short term crisis counseling to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and disasters. I am graduating in Jan. with an A.S. in human services and I don't want to get the B.S. in human services. but should I really listen to the results of this test?
Jobs with B.A. in Psychology??? I graduated college in 2002, but found out I was pregnant a month after graduation. I have been a stay at home since 2003, when my son was born. I am ready to put my little one in daycare and start my career. I did do volunteer work at a juvenile prison during my junior year in college, I helped inmates with homework and taught them to read. My senior year in college I did an internship, for class credit, under an M.S.W. at the same juvenile prison. The MSW would let me sit in on her counseling sessions with inmates, ask for my feedback, and taught me the steps of an intake interview. What are some good jobs psychology related or not that I could do with my B.A. in psychology and minor in Administration of Justice?
Job suggestions for jack-of-all-trades with BA in philosophy, strong computer and theatre experience.? I have a BA in Philosophy and have a background in theatre (but don't want to do theatre professionally), confident and enjoy speaking with others face to face, and strong computer software skills as well as HTML and graphic design (all self taught, no formal education or experience). I'm moderately talented in most things and am a fast learner. A jack-of-all-trades to the T. I'm currently working for a health care staffing company making many phone calls daily to clear the applications of travel nurses and I hate it; I find it boring and simplistic. Administration is just not for me, neither is the staffing industry or health care. I know that I'm going to need to find a special niche profession to utilize my talents and feel motivated, any suggestions? A small hint: I find career counseling and event management interesting, and want other suggestions of jobs that are creative, personal and even avant garde.
Counseling Physchology !?!? I want to pursue a career in Psychology, but I dont know what career path I want to take. I'm thinking about counseling. I think I want to major in childpsychology. What type of counseling paths do they have dealing with children? Is it a popular career? What type of degree do you have to have to become this? How long do you have to go to college? What are the working conditions? Is it an office type of job? BY this I mean, having your own office with a desk and computer, clients come to you, and also what are the average hours that you have to work. Any other information you can give me would be great. Thank You Much !!!!!!!
Advice for a Career Change? I have three years of experience in Social Work and an M.A. in Psychology. I have decided to change my career so as to not do Social Work or anything counseling related. However, because I am living in New York City, I need to make atleast $35,000 a year to afford the bills. Any job suggestions?
Career path to choose? Career path to choose? I am at a real crummy point in my life. I have graduated from college 2 years ago with a degree that I am not using. I have taken many personality, career tests on line and have found my strong points are in social work, but I feel that I have wasted my degree in a sense. I have a science background, but do not want to work in that field. I am debating between nursing, teaching, and counseling. My parents want me to be a teacher, but I'm not so sure. I've heard there are many rewards, but also draw backs to teaching. Help! What should I do? As a side note: I think nursing will be a great career path for me, but I do not want to work for the money. I was brought up in a home where there was a lack of money & I do not want to do nursing for the wrong reasons. What should I do? Should I go for the job with more opportunities (nursing)?

Why do Employment Agencies assume everyone is OUTGOING? Sure they teach how to do good at Interviews, they have this workshops for resumes and so on.. But they are missing the point on some of us job seekers. Some of us don't have any social skill and are really terrible with speaking. So you askk them if they have any career counseling. And they don't.. All they have is workshops which only help talkative people. And you also have computers to look for jobs. That's all. Luckly today i found out the elocal college has A career counseling center... But in all the employement centers and temp agencies, it's like they seee a shy/iintrovert person.. and they don't know what advice to give at all. They don't even offer counseling..just "You can use the computers to search" If you're shy/not very social..that not goonna help in any way cause most jobs in ads are geared toward the outgoing people. We OTHERs need some kind of direction on where to look for jobs that will accept us.
What career SHOULD I pursue? I haven't yet started any college but I am going back to school soon and need to know what kind of degree I want to aim for. I want to know what career would be good to use my spiritual gifts to help others & my skill/interests for satisfication in my job. My top 6 spiritual gifts starting from strongest according to a questionnaire I took are: Missionary, Discerning of Spirits, Knowledge, Administrative, Faith & Hospitality. Currently an administrative assitant with construction company. I thought of possibly taking courses first to advance in this field of administrative work. Also wondered if I would be good working in a different field of work. Previously worked as secretary in a counseling clinic. Worked w/ some psychologists & psychiatrists and wondered if I could become a psychiatrist. That would require extensive study but in the end I could be making approx $145,000 a yr. I also write poetry and some autobiography. But I know I don't need a degree to publish. I am smart, a quick learner and have some leadership experience. I've supervised 8-10 employees during a shift. I want to be making at least 45,000 and I want to use my skills to help others. I am 27 yr working mother and wife. Plan to go to school only 1-2 days a wk for now. Whatever I do, needs to be worth the time I am putting into this studying.
Counselling Skills for Human Services certificate..............career ideas? I have this certificate (I live in Ontario) and I have not been able to find any jobs that only require this specific certificate. For example, if I apply at a group home, schools or shelters, I get told that I need my Social Worker diploma or CYW diploma or so forth. It's not like I am applying to be a social worker or anything but it seems like now to get a job in the community services field you have to have a specialized diploma. I am starting to wonder why colleges even offer this program if no one hires ppl with the cert. Does anyone have any idea what jobs I do qualify for or was this a wasted certificate for me?
Which sounds like the better career path? I currently teach college English. I love my job, but getting a full-time position is damn near impossible. So, I teach six classes, and I am considered part-time (adjunct). My paychecks are inconsistent and not guaranteed. I get stressed out and worn down easily, but I truly love being in the classroom. I've been considering trying to get into the counseling/advising realm. But I'm being told more education is the key. But I'm in debt up to my eyeballs, I have a wedding to pay for, and I'm tired of planning my life when I'm already on the verge of 30. I'd finally like to be in a position to pay off my debt with REGULAR paychecks. But everything I apply for jobs, people tell me I'm overeducated. What the hell do I do? AF107: I'm well aware of where I posted this.
Career Change....?? Ok, here it is, I don't like my job or the industry I work in. I have a BA in Criminology and I am a case manager working in a big city court system, I hate working with this particular population, I don't want the "counsel" these people, I really don't care about them too much, they're criminals who have bad attitudes. I'm just not Satisfied with the career choice I made. I plan on having kids in the next 2 yrs and I would like a job that I can make at least $40,000/yr in that is FLEXIBLE. I may have to go back to school and take a few classes but I prefer not to have to get my master’s degree. I like dealing with the facts, things that have a straightforward answer/solution,I don’t like math or science, I like working with people, I’d like to do something I can be proud of. I just never felt like there is something I want to be, I didn’t grow up saying this is what I’m going to do when I get older. So basically, flexible career, $40,000/yr, not too much effort to put into it. Has anyone ever felt at all similar to this and what did they do about it, does anyone have a job like I’m describing and what it is?/ I know this question is so strange but if anyone can offer some insight, I would really appreciate it.
Career directions for older SAHM w/2 degrees? I feel lost as to how to re-enter the working world which I inhabited from age 15 'til I had kids in my 30s. I have a BS in Zoology & an MS in Counseling (but not licensable as a counselor, don't have the requirements) and served in the military (not in a transferable field, of course! Had to stay out of the workforce much longer than planned due to child w/ a disability but really want to return. But to what? I've been looking and it seems like all the professional jobs I see require qualifications I don't have or degrees I don't hold. Due to certain physical limitations I now have, I can't do jobs involving lifting or prolonged standing (like all day) and that further reduces my options. I'd sure appreciate some suggestions particularly if there's anyone out there who's been a SAHM and been able to re-enter the professional world; please no b.s. jokester-type responses because I don't need to be kicked when I'm down. Thanks!
Career question.? I have a bachaelor's degree and a masters degree, that focus on education and counseling, with ministry, I have not been able to find work since I find that I don't connect with kid's in a classroom situation. After working as a bagger for a local grocery store(jobs are hard to find), I'm going to a community college to take more classes to find another direction. Anyone know some agencies that can help me use what I already have.(employment agencies have been exhausted for the most part) I am open within reasonable boundaries.
More career questions...what to do?? I was thinking social work..I want to work with youth..what i really want to do is guidance counseling. But a lot of people have asaid those jobs are few and far between. At the univeristy I was told that I should get a teaching degree and then a MA in school counseling bc that would make it easier to find a job. I have no interest in teaching at all. Would a BSW in social work and a MA in guidance counselor help me to get into a guidance counseling position at a school? Does anyone know the hours you would have to work, or the pay scale, for social workers in school or hospital settings? Thanks!
