Resume suggestions and Career Change Suggestions? I am looking to change careers. I am 34 years old and a home loan officer for a major bank. I have been at my current company for over 5 years and have been in telesales/call center ever since I graduated from college. I am so burned out from sales and although I don't know what to do next, I know I need a more stable job, so that means no sales. I have found a few interesting job postings for Assistant Director at a library, Librarian and some other different positions. I would like to apply, but don't have experience. However, I know that I could do a good job because I am a quick learner. How can I make my resume attractive to an employer? I have a bachelor's degree in English and computer and sales skills. I have been a team leader at a previous job, so I know that I work well with subordinates. How do I get this across on paper?
Big career change? My husband, after graduating high school, joined the Singapore Police Force for 3 years, spent the next 3 years studying for a bachelor degree, taught in a primary school as a temporary teacher for the next 3 and recently became an auxiliary police. He absolutely hates his current job because of the very unchallenging job scope and too much forced OTs. Due to some reasons, he would like to make a dramatic career change to become a buyer/purchaser. I am helping him to sort out his resume but I cannot not think of how his experiences and skills as a law-enforcer and teacher can be transferred to a buyer position. He's 29 now (read "sort of old job seeker"), has a Bachelor degree in Business and no relevant experience. Any suggestions how I can make this career-changing resume stand-out?

BIG career change- what to do with resume? Between the US Navy and a steel mill, I have spent almost 30 years as a skilled trades welder. I took the buy-out for books and tuition and health care for 6 years. I always loved accounting, so now's my chance. Almost finished with BBA in Accounting Investigation, and will finish with a master's in Forensic accounting in 2 years & want to get some experience during that time. First topic on a resume: experience. Answer (me): Duh, none- that's why I went to school. Should I just put "core skills" or something first, and leave the jobs for last? I did very good in the Navy (E-7) and at the steel mill. Faced this type of situation? Please, help me out! I count on all of you, my friendS

Looking for career change. I was a legal assistant for 20 yrs and am now unemployed.? I'm feverishly trying to work on my resume but have reached a real roadblock with it especially since I'm seeking a career change into something more creative. I'm thinking of event planning (though I realize that I will need lots of training in this kind of work). I understand from all the reading I've done about resumes that one must have some accomplishments on his/her resume. Well, what if you don't have any accomplishments listed? I had jobs where you just listen to dictation all day long, type, file and answer phones and schedule appointments. Are there any legal assistants out there who feel they are or were stuck in a rut, became totally stressed out and bored with typing/dictation and found a way out of that field and are doing something altogether different for a job? Have those legal assistants / secretaries figured out what their transferable skills are and been able to successfully enter a different field of work that actually pays a decent salary?
I have been looking for a job. My experience is in the medical field(specialized) need career change.Any ideas I worked as an eye bank technician for the last 17 years. This is a very specialized field of retrieving corneas from donors and processing the tissue in the lab.I am a certified tech. but am not a nurse. I have made a move and am trying to get something related to my field, or would even consider a career change. I am either overqualified for many jobs or underqualified for others. I also worked as a educational coordinator for the eye bank and thought maybe those skills I could use in another field even if it wasn't the medical field. I had thought about going back to school to get some education but that is not possible right now and besides at my age of 60 I do not want to pile up student loans it is not worth it. I was just wondering if anyone out there would have any ideas or suggestions that I had not thought of. I would appreciate any help I could get. I have posted my resume on Monster.com as well as other locations with no luck.
If you were writing a resume after changing careers, how would you choose which format to use? I will be graduating in May and one of my classes requires a written resume. My previous jobs include restaurant management, hospital unit clerk, telemetry monitor on the cardiac ward, and HR manager. My future career will be as a physician, however the job I am to focus on for the assignment would be related to a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. Would it be better to focus on specific abilities from these jobs or to continue with a chronological format. Also, should I focus on the classes I have taken to prepare for my degree such as labs and neglect job history or should I include job history and just do a basic overview of my college preparation. Is it necessary to include grade point and test scores (MCAT)? Thanks for any advice you could pass on to me.
How to change career directions? I've been in the customer service business for over 15 years. I've done everything from Telemarketing (outbound cold calling) to inbound service and sales. I still would like like to be in sometime of "service friendly" atmosphere but not customer service where I'm on the phones. My resume is filled with customer service and sales experience, but I want to change careers into a different field. I'm a quick learner and adapt very well into any area or task that I'm given. How do I convince potential employers to give me a shot when my resume does not support these factors.
How is this "career objective" on my resume? should i change it? I'm a programmer. I got a copy-paste boring job where my brain cells have died and my skills have atrophied from dis-use. Java is up to 6.0 now and we are still using 1.3!!! I'm *not* desperate for a job, any job, so i want to include a career objective on my resume to indicate what i want out of my next job. Please tell me if this looks right at the top of my resume or if it would turn people off, and what i can do to make it more professional or effective. (professional! ha! a way of saying "help my brain is dying" while making it look like i'm not saying anything with any meaning at all, while making it clear to people who read between the lines that what i really mean is "help, my brain is dying!") CAREER OBJECTIVE To find someplace where I need to learn new skills, keep up with modern technology, solve problems creatively, or grow in any other direction. (should i say "to learn new skills, keep..." instead? or that makes it less clear that my brain is dying?) based on what you all say but the examples you give(!) i did what i tell people to do too often and used google. based on a career objective page on google and your advice, i now came up with this improvement: "A position needing the acquisition of new skills, I.T-related research, keeping up with modern technology, solving problems creatively, or any other growth." Still needs work, but better.
career change! what I’m doing is tearing my body apart! I don’t know where to start, any ideas? hello all, I’m getting older, currently I`m a project manager for a real estate co. st.louis area, but I also do a lot of the other things because I’m a jack of all trades I can pretty much do it all from design to handling permits and inspectors, planning, finish carpentry all the way down to general labor, today carried 45 buckets of dirt out of a basement now my back is killing me and I just had back surgery a year ago. ill be right back at the hospital if I keep this up, so here I am. I feel like I’m wasting my talents. if had to put together a resume my experience and education would look something like this ..project manager3 years...ironworker 10years 3years training...skills and knowledge of various trades...had my own small construction co...3 years engineering drafting in high school...1 year of AutoCAD. I have learned a great deal about computers, I would like to find a career which I could apply my skills and make at least 80k in a computer related feild..any ideas?

Moving to Japan--advice on career change? We have lived in Japan twice 10 years ago both doing the JET program in turn. We now have 2 young children (Asian, adopted) and would love for them to have the opportunity to live abroad, go to an international school and live & travel in Asia. My husband has worked in product management/development for the past 10 years in Japanese companies and is in a career track to become a director at his current company. We loved living in Japan, as hard as it is, and have always dreamed of trying the ex-pat life there. The current position is a switch from Japanese manufacturing companies to working as a director for a US state office in Japan to bring Japanese companies to that state (& jobs for US workers). Idealistically we really like it and hope that long term, it will help my husband break into working for American companies in Japan. We wonder, though, if this kind of change in his resume (we plan to live there at least 3-5 years) would really set him back. Thanks!
Tips on switching career? Resume and cover letter help!? I am trying to go into a different line of work, but I am having trouble doing so. I think the main reason is that my resume reflects my experience in my current field, and I am not sure how to go about highlighting the fact that I can do other things. How can I change the focus of my resume and cover letter to say that I am capable of switching careers/doing something else? Thanks!
Moved home in my mid 30s for a couple of months to reconsider career change and come to terms with myself.? I have come upon a turning point in my life. I'm in my mid 30's and due to circumstances because my career, relationship, loss of my place of ten years in SF, bad finances....moved to be with my folks in a small town of Augusta GA to rethink what my next move should be. I've realized I've made some mistakes that have put me in this situation and try to focus on the positive, but with few job options in my field out here, and the discission to move back to get the job i want seems so far away at times, I've become depressed and find it hard to focus.....even a resume' seems hard, and the more I'm out here...the worse it gets.....finding a clear objective is important i know, but sometimes I feel my options are low... what should my next move be......keep my contacts, explore new options, find other ways my talents could be used? Confused.... I also need to mention that I'm in some debt, so that puts the pressure on me, but that is not my main focus. The focus is the career I want to have back in SF when I return with more confidence. I was in the photo production world for 7+ years and want to stay in the visual type marketing world, if not the photography side as well and want to move on this fast, but I do realize how fortunate I'm to have these 2 months to really reflect on that. Putting it all on paper is a good idea and I've also made a 2 year forcast as to what my salary should be and to pay off my debt in 2 years. Now my next big move is to really feel the self-esteem come back somehow. I've started counseling as well, but sometimes I want answers fast and want to move forward quicker....I know it take s some time for this...but it's hard to realize sometimes....this is only a short time in my life...., but I want to bring it all together somehow....

What would be a resume objective statement for a police officer? I'm going for a career change from marketing to being a police officer and I was wondering if anyone could suggest an objective sentence for my resume my old objective read: Seeking a marketing coordinator position within a competitive and changing environment that will provide challenge and offer the opportunity to acquire new skills. can I even use basically the same thing since my goals are still pretty much unchanged? Seeking a law enforcement officer position within a changing team environment that will provide challenge and offer the opportunity to acquire new skills. or Seeking a police officer position within a changing team environment that will provide challenge and offer the opportunity to acquire new skills. would dynamic be a better word to use? like Seeking a position as a law enforcement officer within a dynamic team environment that will provide challenge and offer the opportunity to acquire new skills. I've had an objective like the one that you gave as an example while I was graduating and later job hunting. I was told by multiple recruiters and college career counselers that it needed to be more invloved like what I currently have. I jsut haven't been able to speak to any of them since deciding to get into law enforcement. Also my resume will be in the hands of a person tomorrow. I know it won't simply be scanned (this time at least)

Changing Careers--Help for Parapro Resume Please? I am preparing my resume for our upcoming Board of Education job fair. I would like to apply for a paraprofessional position and am interested in making my "mom of a special needs child" portion more professional sounding. I have also taken many classes, participated in events, and volunteer at his school often--it was just always more of an interest than career oriented. I have also taken and passed the parapro test. I'm really nervous because this is a field change for me and I face the possibility of having my salary cut in half (which is a sad, sad fact that I'm trying not to get on a soapbox about...just like the parapro test...) so would definately like to be prepared to be at my best for this fair. Thank you for taking the time to read this and any possible suggestions you may have. Thank you for your answers, they have been very helpful and informative. I forgot there are different types of parapros--perhaps I'd be placed in technology, because that's my background. Unfortunately, in our county, 1-on-1 assistants are not eligible for benefits so I would not be able to apply for that position. Once again, thank you--your answers have been very well thought out and helpful.
Career change next steps? I am looking to change from the education field to working in the non-profit/political sector. I have lots of transferable skills, a degree and have been told I have a varitey of experience. Unfortunately the only people responding to my resume are those in the field of education. I applied to safety positions in case I don't find anything right away. I have voulnteered in political organizatins, networked, talked to friends and posted my resume on countless job boards. Informational interviews/interning and volunteering are a waste of time if I am not offered a job. Plus if I get the safety job I won't have time for anything that is not a paid position. Any suggestions I've been looking for years
Is this a good resume objective statement if I am going to a Career Conference on the Broadcast Industry? My objective statement is "I’m seeking an opportunity to work in a stimulating work environment where I can experience all facets of advertising agency work while making a valuable contribution." However, I will be giving this resume to companies from the broadcast industry which are not advertising agencies, but I want to do advertising for their companies (tv networks, radio...) Do you think I should change the wording? If so, how?

What should i put on my resume when im changing careers? ok, about 5 years ago i was dental assisting in a dental office. I got out of that and got into childcare and am now a nanny. So for the last 4 years i have excellent childcare experience with excellent childcare references. Well, now i want to get back into dental assisting and employers would like for me to submit a resume. I have an excellent nanny resume but dont even have one for my jobs back when i was younger. I cant even remember exact dates of employment and if a new employer calls them for references they probably will not even know me. So my question is, should i just make up a "dental assisting" resume and not include my last 4 years of employment as a nanny seeing as how it would have nothing to do with the job i am applying for? Or include ALL employment no matter what job i am applying for. And what if i cant remember employment dates??????

Six Sigma- Will it help resume? I am 26 and have worked in human services for about five years, before I took a break and went into merchandising. I am at that aweful point in my career, where I realize that the training and education I have so far, is not enough to give me the extra boost I need. I was recently interviewed for a really good supervisor position and bombed the leadership question and realized that I don't have enough leadership skills and experience to move much higher. I really can't afford to accept a lesser position and I am afraid I am not going to have a job in March! My company supplies the Home Depot- and you know, the housing crunch right now... Will six- sigma make me more marketable? My Plan: (Potential ironic Career change.) Get SIx Sigma Certification (Lean) Get Certification in property management (Despite housing crisis, commercial and apartment estate still strong) Get real- estate license IS this enough? Or do everything else above and get helathcare management license
